Rid myself of This Actiontec router!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an avid gamer on many platforms, and here in lines the problem.

If I was just going to download photos and music and email and such the router would be great (its free) but I play a lot of games and there is an extremely small Nat table. This hinders me on my xbox while playing halo and while playing games like Wow.

I have a very nice very expensive and powerful router.

I do not use any Verizon set top boxes nor any of their widgets or anything like that as I have lifetime tivo.

So my question, sorry for being long winded, can I have Verizon activate my Ethernet port on my ont for my IP service and have my TV come in through the coax like it does now?

It is getting to the point I am going to break my contract and be done with Verizon forever. I love the TV and internet service I just need to get rid of This one choke point.

Edit: can i use a coax network adapter? i.e.as the coax comes into my house and them split it to my tivo and new router a moca adapter?

They can certainly enable the Ethernet port on the ONT for you. It's free of charge for as long as you run your own Ethernet cabling from the ONT to your router. If you have any devices that require MoCa, the ActionTec will need to remain in the mix sitting behind your router to act as a MoCa bridge. Otherwise, your Cable TV will work fine without the ActionTec.

Here are some ways for you to do what you would like to do. just keep in mind that these are advanced set ups and not supported over the phone or by technician at verizon, so you can do them at your own risk type of thing, and the only support you'll really have is from online users. If your a DIY (Do it yourself) kinda guy, then these should work, If you have TV service, then you need to keep the actiontec in the picture, but there are ways for you to seperate it out so that you can use your own router for your pc's, and then the actiontec for the set top boxes.

Yes. Since you have no Verizon STBs, you have no need for the Actiontec. Simply have VZ enable the ethernet port on the ONT.

Your video will continue to be delivered over coax as before.

No. MOCA WAN and MOCA LAN operate on different frequencies. MOCA adapters only support MOCA LAN frequencies.

If you have STB's though its simple to setup. The most important thing here is to get the ethernet port from VZ's ONT unit hooked up to your routers wan port for internet. Then you have to call VZ to have them enable the ethernet port. If they ask you why just say you want to use it. They love to ask many questions about what you are doing and I beg you not to try and explain it. They will say it doesnt work etc... Then still use the actiontec as a lan port for the Coax so that the STB's can get bridged to your ethernet network via the actiontec box. Also plug in from the actiontec Ethernet LAN port to the "expensive routers" lan port so the STB's can be bridged onto your lan since the STB's need internet access. After that, all you need to do it disable DHCP on the actiontec box and simply keep it as a layer 2 switch. Which means disable all the other features on it. Then reboot all the set top boxes so that they can get an DHCP lease off your "expensive router" and your are good to go. You might need to unplug the STB's for a bit so they can clear the memory etc... Good luck!
