changing wep key to 8 characters

Hello,
I'm currently trying to connect a Wifi range extender to our Verizon FiOS Internet network. I recently bought a Crystalview router/repeater which advertises that it can be a range extender after changing a few settings. I have changed all the settings per the manufacturer directions, but am running into a problem with connecting it properly. The problem is coming into play when entering the WEP key into the extender. I get a message that the key must be 8 characters in length, and our default WEP key is 10 characters. I've tried changing the WEP key from the HEX to ASCII which reduces it to the characters, but I get the message I need 8.

My question is this: is there a way to change the WEP key to exactly 8 characters?

You should consider using WPA2 as the security method instead of WEP.
