Who's in charge? TV, DVD player or STB? (for playing DVD player)

I swapped out an old standard TV for an LG HDTV. So now I have the HDTV, a FiOS STB and Verizon-issued FiOS remotes (P265v1.1). I can access TV programming fine, However, I cannot figure out how to add the (inexpensive, simple) Craig DVD player to the configuration.

I've connected the yellow/white/red connectors to the DVD player and to the TV, and of course plugged the player in, but I can't figure out how to switch from TV programming to the DVD mode. On my previous set-up with the old standard TV, my FiOS remote's A/V (TV Input) button switched between TV programming and DVD player mode. Now, when I push that button, it mutes the TV volume!

Do I have the DVD player connected correctly? Am I missing a component, or do I connect it through the STB instead of directly to the TV?

Which remote should I use to switch from TV programming to using the DVD player - the FiOS remote, the LG TV remote, or the DVD player remote? And what buttons do I push?

I realize each of these components comes with variables, but I'm hoping someone here has dealt with this before. I've combed through all the manuals and tried a couple different things, but nothing is working.

Connect the DVD player directly to the TV.

The STB is also connected directly to the TV.

I'm not familiare with your remote but if it has a "TV Input" button you can use that to cycle through the different TV inputs when you want to use the DVD player. (On my remote that button is on the bottom left.) If your remote doesn't provide that feature, you will need to use another remote to change TV inputs.

The TV remote has an INPUT button. When I select it, I am offered a panel of choices. HDMI1 is active and the other active option is TV, which gives only static and snow when selected. There are also some grayed-out options: USB, AV1, AV2, COMPONENT1, COMPONENT2, RGB-PC, HMDI2, HMDI3 and HMDI4.

Are any of these meant to be yhe DVD player option?

It appears you've used the composite/audio outputs of the DVD player and should have them connected to either the AV1 or AV2 inputs on the TV. If the option to switch to these is grayed out then you haven't connected the DVD player correctly.

If you used the red/white/yellow cable to connect to the TV, it is AV1 or AV2. The DVD player should be on for the TV to recognize it.

You'll get a much better picture if you can use HDMI or component (5 wires) connections.

Tried the AV1 and AV2 options to no avail. Get a No Signal message for each. Wonder if the fact that they are grayed-out on the display means something.
