37 phone calls from 877-936-1170 with Verizon Service Alert

Question

I've now received 37 phone calls in the last 3 weeks from a call center claiming to be Verizon and they leave an automated message with a reference number.  The ref # is my 10 digit land line number, which is different than the one associated with my FIOS/Internet, but still a VZ number nonetheless.

I called them at the 877-936-1170 number, and they state that it's been over a year since my last payment.  I triple checked and all 3 of my Verizon accounts (FIOS, Wireless, and home business phone) are all up to date with no bills outstanding.   They give me the last 4 digits of an account number which don't match any of my 3 accounts.

Does anyone recognize that number as Verizon?  The rude nature of the caller makes me think it is Verizon (sorry, couldnt help it) and not a scam, but yet I can get no information from them.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.

Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.
