IP Cam set works only for LAN not internet.

I am trying to set up a remote IP camera (FOSCAM) in my house. The problem appears to be in trying to connect wirelessly to the internet. I can view the video via my MacAir and Iphone/Ipad apps only within my home. I need the WAN set up and disconnect the wire from the router. I believe I need to contact Verizon to allow port forwarding but perhaps I can do it myself. Any ideas? Thanks Manny
