Verizon sent an email offering a new upgraded router - better security. When I click on the link it says the page is unavailable. How do I get this new upgrade? Or is the email a scam.
Thanks!
If you have a specific brand router that doesn't support the better security offered by WPA2 then Verizon is indeed offering a free upgrade, and you can take advantage of it by signing in at their online webstore found here
I was also checking this out, but it still wants $7 for shipping. Any chance I can pick this up in person at a location somewhere?
You're talking to other customers here. We don't know anything more than what Verizon has posted. If you have questions about their offer that aren't answered on the web site, I suggest you try contacting them directly. Click here: Contact Us.
You could also try visiting a local Verizon FiOS store and asking. I suspect you'll find out the offer is only available online, but that's just my guess.
$7 for shipping isn't such a big deal, especially since some folks have reported Verizon shipped them the latest Rev I router which sells for $75.
Enjoy.
There are people on some other forums saying they took this offer for the free router and Verizon ended up sending them rev. i's. If thats true you cant beat that.

Isn't the shipping usually overnight? Anything Verizon has sent me has come overnight in the mail from Virginia.
I, too, thought it was a scam. The supplied link resulted in "webpage not available." I called in to tech support, they had me go to another link which only reset my WPA password. When I mentioned this, he said, "yes, there is a promotion to replace the older routers."
He said he couldn't do it from there, and gave me the number for sales/billing. The lady there was really nice. She confirmed the promotion, but said I needed to print the email and FAX it to her, that she couldn't receive emails so she could process the order.
Being on vacation, I don't have access to a FAX machine, so it would have to wait until Tuesday...but she's off on Tue&Wed, so it would be Thur of next week before she could do anything.
On a lark, I thought I'd try the link again. It still fails. I found my way to the forum, and the link in this thread does, indeed, take you to the right place. THANKS!!!!!!
