Registration nonsense

All the "secret" questions involve some sort of 'favorite' thing. I'm not ten years old. I don't have a favorite book, friend, pet, vacation spot, and I don't know the name of my "first" school; would that be my pre-school, etc? The point is, these are all vague questions that I and most other adults are likely to not remember their initial response to.

THEN, I try to create a password and see "special characters are not advised in passwords"! WHAT! That's just dumb.

Now, if only I could figure out how to activate my account without installing the terrible verizon software.

Oh, and if I do pick one of the silly security questions, the answer must be more than 5 characters long. WHY?

Installed the garbage software on an old system as a sacrifice, and lolol it launches internet explorer when it's done. lololol

1. What "garbage software" are you referring to? You shouldn't need to install any software to connect to the internet.

2. What is your favorite food? "tasty" - 5 letters, and always true, no matter if your favorite food changes. I don't use this personally, but it helps to think a little outside the box for these answers. It helps you remember.

#1 You don't have to tell them the truth to what the answers are to those security questions(s).

#2 If you forget your password,you will be asked that/those questions.

#3 If you post the answer to the question online, other people can hi-jack your account.

#4 - if you choose too short or an obvious answer to a question that people can guess about you (what's your favorite color? red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple -- bet I hit just about everyone's with one of those answers) -- someone can hijack your account.

My answers to any of these questions is to answer using a passphrase that is unique per website but easy for me to remember what I used (let's say maybe you use the second and the next to last word in the question and a number which is the number of characters in the last word). Done.

Where did you attend high school? didhigh6

What was the name of your first pet? wasfirst3

All kinds of possible "passphrase" generation techniques (specific letters in words, always using a line from a favorite book combined with some combination of letters of the website your accessing). The possibilities are endless and since only you know what "pattern" you use to make up your password -- then only you know the answers because they make no sense.

Your password / passphrase then becomes no a "word", but "sequence" which you execute in order to get the answer needed.

Much more secure.

Not sure if #3 was referring to me, but as I said, I don't use that question/answer. It was an example.
