call local office

I'm trying to update my service. Can anybody tell me why whenever it starts to look up my account and check for available services, it says they are unable to gather this info and call verizon local office. Also, it says my location is NY. When I try to change it, it again starts looking up my info and says to call verizon local office. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?
