A Few Quick Tips For Those Who Are New To Fios Quantum and the New Quantum Update

I can't edit my first post so I thought I'd update something here.

On the intial update the screen saver auto off was listed as auto off in the settings. At least it was on my vms otherwise I wouldn't have listed it.

The following day my box received another update and today just noticed the setting was changed from auto off to sleep timer.

So the updated correct way to disable auto off/screen saver (and as Justin mentioned in a prior post) is:

Menu > System > Media Server Settings > Sleep Timer > set to none

The lack of eSata on quantum is a deal killer for me - I would be going backwards in terms of storage space.

Those who had the older boxes prior to quantum should already know about all of this.
The new update now reflects what the older stb/dr's have and have had for awhile now. There are now more menu settings you will want to go through.
The ad banner guide at the bottom can be disabled. Go to menu > Notifications > Guide Banner > set to disable
The banner will still be there, but will show Verizon rather then ads.
The home screen can be turned off. There is an option to turn it off within the home screen or you can go to menu > Notifications > Promotions > set to disable
The led on the boxes have been changed. If you want to change it go to menu > System > Media Server Settings > LED Brightness.
The Auto Power Off option is set to 4 hours by default. If you don't want the box to turn off automatically you will want to disable this. Menu > System > Media Server Settings > Auto Power Off > set to none
There is now the option to change the guides banners times outs. Menu > Settings > System > Television > Info Bar Time Out (also Channel Bar Timeout)
Some on other forums mentioned the video formats have been changed so its a good idea to check the option out to see if it reflects what you want. Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings > Video Format
The aspect # button now works so any SD channels that are boxed can now be stretched using the # button.
I'm happy to see this option back.

I don't know if it's been enabled yet or not. If someone else on here doesn't reply about it as soon as I find out I'll post an update when I find out.

Thanks. that would be a HUGE deal for me. I switched from FIOS because of this, among a few other things, and if FIOS adds eSata support to their 6-channel DVR and the competitor does not, this would likely get me back.

One other question: does quantum use the same remote and does the 30-second skip work on the remote?

Your cable company competitor here does not offer their feature. Their old (not 6-channel DVR) DVR was a very similar model to the Motorola one FIOS has and you could actually program a button for it into their remote using a button you didn't care about, but their new DVR is a cisco one and it doesn't have that feature at all.

This is another HUGE deal for me - skipping commercials is a rapid operation when you have this feature whereas if you have to fast forward through them, it takes a bit longer.

Yes there is the same skip option. 30 second, 1 minute, etc..

Apparently they just simply removed it, at least I can't find it. I have no idea why they took it out, won't really affect me as I rarely used it, but I know lots of people did use it. Strange....

I don't think so. I have gone completely through all of the Settings (and changed a number of them back to the way I had them before the update) and I cannot find anything regarding attaching an eSATA drive. Of course I might have missed it but I don't think so.

Thanks for the info regarding the latest update. I like some of the new/improved options, however I am highly disappointed that the update discontinued the reminder option. I would think that setting a program reminder is a highly used feature and many will be unhappy now that it is gone. I know I surely am!

They did ineed remove it. Why remove it I have no idea.

I'm also told still no esata support which I find very odd and like Justin I didnt see any option for it. I would have thought with the update it would have been an option. I know for a lot of people it is going to be a deal breaker for them.

The "set reminder" option is gone from the guide menu as of 8/12/14. Where did it go, why, and how do I get it back? We used this feature every night so we don't get awakened by loud infomercials.

Justin, I have only had FIOS for 4 weeks and you seem very knowledgable about it. My comment is that ever since the recent update 2 nights ago, when I turn on my 3 tv's (1 VMS & 2 client's) for the first time each day by using the Verizon remote the Tv asks to press the Menu button before the channel will come on. Previously, when I turned them on with the remote it went right to the channel. I have tried unplugging the boxes then plugging them back in but this issue still exists. Any ideas?

First off, thanks for the kind words about me being knowledgable, I suspect there are some here that would disagree with that comment. Smiley Very Happy

I suspect that your problem is that the new update added a time-out Menu setting to turn off the STB if there is no activity for a set period of time. By default the time-out is set to 4 hours. So what you need to do is go into the Menu and change the setting to Never. Note: you will need to scroll up to find the Never option, it is unfortunately hidden.

On the Server:

Menu ==> Settings ==> System ==> Media Server Settings ==> Sleep Timer ==> change 4 hours to None

On each Client:

Menu ==> Settings ==> System ==> Media Client Settings ==> Sleep Timer ==> change 4 hours to None

This should fix the problem (at least I hope so).

There is no longer an information bar duration option available. In that you can no longer set the amount of time that the information bar remains on when you switch channels or press the information bar. Quantum has removed this time out feature. Please correct me if I have overlooked some way to access this option.

Sure there is. This weeks update added that function back in:

Menu ==> Settings ==> System ==> Televisions ==> Info Bar Timeout

The Channel Bar Timeout setting is also back.

Just installed Quantum TV yesterday - a couple of things that I've seen posted on another forum are happening to me.

1. I can not schedule a recording by going to DVR -> Schedule a recording and searching.. when I do that, I find my show and click on it but I'm not given an option to record the show or series, my only option is "EXIT" The only way I've found to record a show is to actually surf to it in the guid and hit record. Is there a fix for this?

2. When I'm watching a recording of a show that is currently being recorded, when I get to a certain point in the show, I hit skip and it doesn't skip but goes back to an earlier part of the show and all subsequent use of the skip button takes me back to that part of the show. For Example - Last night we were recording Last Comic Standing - about 30 minutes after it started we started watching it from the begining so we could skip the commercials. About 20 minutes into watching the show (it had now been recording for 50 minutes) When I hit skip, it would not skip is just kept restarting from the point I hit skip - 20 minutes into the show. So I figured I would just fast forward through the commercials which worked ok, then at the next commercial break, I tried to hit skip again - it then skipped BACK to where it was the first time I had the problem - about 20 minutes into the recording. I read on another forum several people having the same problem as well - Any fix for that?

Those are 2 very well known bugs that almost everyone is seeing since the new update. I havent seen #2 yet, but #1 I am. I honestly havent found anyone who can record anything from searching yet since the update. My fav so far is the mysterious ghost rec light that just comes on randomly even though nothing is set to record.

I've been told Verizon has a very long list of bugs since the update rolled out. Who knows how long it will take to fix all of it. I don't think they thought the update through very carefully considering all of the bugs that people are seeing.

Unfortunately, at this time the answer to both of your questions is NO. At least I have not seen anyone post a solution anywhere to either problem, and I have tried everything I can think of to get around #1, to no avail. Have not run into #2 yet, probably will tomorrow though with the NASCAR Truck race.

I have seen several posts on a couple of forums by people who claim to have contact(s) within Verizon software development that the developers are aware of a fairly long list of problems with this weeks release and it is likely that some kind of update will be coming soon. I hope that is correct, but I have no way of knowing (I used to have some contacts but apparently I made them all mad or something). One thing I do like with this release is the availability of the Aspect button, I really used that a lot on SD channels and missed it greatly when I switched to Quantum TV.

I am East of 377, North of 1709 (Keller Parkway). Have lived here for 34+ years, seen a wee bit of change, where you are was probably a field or a ranch when we moved here..... Smiley Very Happy

This is a overall Fios issue. Something happened recently where they changed the recording ways. I don't have Quantum and have this same issue.

There seems to be another bug that some people but not all are seeing with the home screen disable settings not sticking.

Hi Im new to FIOS quantum TV about a month now. I can only seem to pull up about 5 or 6 widgets (just AP, facebook tiwitter weather, and traffic) I thought you can get football and baseball scores and some others. Any idea on whats going on? thanks

Those are the only widgets supported on Quantum right now.

Hi all. I an considering upgrading to Quantum TV. One of the big questions I have is if my current saved shows can be transfered to the new STB? I really want to be able to keep them. Do other settings like favorites and DVR programming transfer over as well?

Transfer recodings. Not possible with any of the Fios DVR's.

However they do transfer your Recordings schedule.

Also, have a questuio or is it gone for good when I change them out .... We have a lot of stuff on the current DVR, is there any way of saving it to the new box or is it gone for ever when we change the boxes out??

All recordings will be lost. Since it's stored on a hard drive there's no way to transfer it from box to box.

How do I transfer my recording schedule? I saved to the cloud prior to activating the new box but I don't see any options to download them and there are no scheduled recordings 😞

If everything was saved to the cloud succesfully after the new box activated it should have asked to import settings. As far as I know there are no import settings on the vms itself within the menu.

The new Video Media Server software cannot recognize an eSATA drive. The only reason I didn't go backward on storage was that I went all the way to Premium and got two Video Media Servers.

Having said that, I will share this: I had to get help from the Server Team, after I foolishly tried to initialize both Servers at once, instead of initializing first one, then the other, and then the clients. In the process I asked them why the VMS hardware has an eSATA connection, yet the VMS software won't run it.

They hinted someone at Verizon was working on it.

I shared with them what I use storage for: as a library for my favorite movies, so I can watch those even in a room not having an optical drive ready to hand. That's not the sort of content I record, watch, then delete. It's the kind of content I watch again, and again, and again.

That conversation took place about two weeks ago. I have not heard anything since.

Has anyone else heard anything about it?

As far as I know, your series recording schedules should transfer without any trouble. But your movie or other individual show schedules won't transfer. Those, you must reconstruct.

The DVR storage is not expected to be a personal library IMO.

That is why you can't save the content off to more permanent media.

Keep in mind that if the drive you have fails, you lose it all.

Verizo has stated that currently do not intend to **bleep** eSATA support to VMS as their current offerings meet or exceed the offerings of their competitors.

So at this point, if you want to save recordings for future watching, you are best to purchase it.
