Considering Upgrade from FIOS To FOS Quantum

I am considering upgrading to FIOS Quantum Premium and have several questions that I hope the members of the form can help me with:

1. Can a recorded program be viewed at the same time in two different locations?

2. Is the list of recorded programs centralized in one list, or is the list by server?

3. Is there any reason not to upgrade, aside from the lack of estata connection?

3) It depends. There are some known issues (too many to list) But a release is anticipated this week. I would watch this forum to see what the results are. But if you really need more tuners for recording, it is acceptable IMHO.

In response to question 2--on my Quantum system the recorded programs are combined into a single list. The ones my husband schedules on the media client in his office and the ones I scheduled on the media server in the family room all appear in a single list no matter which media device we're watching on.

That said, we each know which programs are ours, so it's not a big problem. We just have to wade through the other person's programs to find our own. Could be an issue if you don't want another person to see what you're recording! 🙂

Worth another response though somewhat redundant:

1. Can a recorded program be viewed at the same time in two different locations? YES. For the cheapest package you can record and watch up to 5 shows at the same time from any TV with a Quantum box.

2. Is the list of recorded programs centralized in one list, or is the list by server? All programming is saved to the main server box no matter where the recording was initiated and is available as a single list from any TV on the system.

3. Is there any reason not to upgrade, aside from the lack of estata connection? Not any show stoppers in my opinion. The malfunctioning remote control issues have been corrected somewhat. But generally, the responsiveness to remote commands is still laggy at best. I still cannot manage previously recorded programs from my kitchen TV. I can watch them fine, just can't get the remote commands to delete programs after I watched them - have to do that from the main living room server. There are some features that did not survive the upgrade such as the Reminder feature. That's gone but may come back in future software releases.

If you need to watch recordings from multiple rooms or if you need the 5 tuner capability, then Quantum is the only servicable option. Otherwise, in my opinion the old boxes worked much better.

Be warned, that you can only simultaneously record 2 more channels than you have TV's. I ordered the Quantum Premium in June and just recently tried to record 7 channels at once. It would only allow me to record 6. So I just today called Verizon, and asked why I was getting charged for the Premium, if I'm limited to what the Enhanced offers. I was told that you can only record 2 more channels simultaneously, than you have TVs. I have 4 TVs. To be able to record 12 channels, I was told, I would have to have 10 TVs. I have yet to be able to find that limitation anywhere on Verizon's site.

Specifically, when I got my order confirmation in June, it states, "Premium Multi-Room DVR (2-5 TVs), Simultaneously Record Up To 12 Programs". They said I misunderstood. How else can you read that? .
Anyway, they gave me $10 credit for each month I was charged the Premium rate, and knocked me down to the Enhanced rate. But I have to trade in one of the DVRs, I guess for one with lesser storage.

If you have two DVRs and Quantum Premium, you have 12 tuners and you can record or view any of them, no matter how many TVs you have in your home. How do I know? We have only four TVs with Quantum Premium. Whomever fed you that line of bull is very misinformed and sounds like they were too lazy to want to assist you with whatever issue you were experiencing. Now, you can only record six at a time on one DVR, as each DVR only has six tuners. In order to utilize the full range of available tuners with Quantum Premium, you must have two DVRs with six tuners each - for a total of 12. (Each Client box borrows a tuner from the DVR, so if you have two client boxes active, then you only have 10 available tuners from which to record.)
