Using DSL Modem with My Wireless Router

Just signed up for DSL using Verizon's DSL modem. My question is: I have a D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit router. Any reason whatsoever that the supplied modem won't work with my existing wireless router? My thinking is that the R-J45 Ethernet output of the modem should be no different than that of any other modem, be it cable or satellite, and should work with any existing wireless router. Am I wrong, if if so why.

Some DSL modems are actually routers. Which model DSL modem do you have?

Just received my equipment. An ADSL2+Modem (Westell F90-610015-06, DSL & Ethernet connections) and an ADSL2+Versalink w/Uniport (Westell A90-750015-07, DSL+4 port router), and since it has a Wireless LED (besides a USB LED, even though there is no USB port on the unit), I assume that it is a wireless gateway/router.

So, if all I want to do is connect just the Modem unit to my existing wireless router (and not use the Westell A90 unit), I would think that it should work just fine. I hope. I realize I have to connect the DSL phone line filters sent to me of course.

So will it work? My "DSL active turn on date" is August 26th, so I have to wait till then.

Both of those modems are routers. The 6100 is a one port router and the 7500 is a 4 port router.

I would use the 6100 and follow the instructions below then hook up your wireless router

click the My Network icon on the top menu
click Network Connections on the left menu
click "Broadband Connection (DSL)" on the main screen
make Protocol say "bridge"
make bridge mode say "bridge"
save

click the My Network icon on the top menu
click Network Connections on the left menu
click "LAN" on the main screen
remove the top checkmark (Private LAN DHCP Server Enable)
save

disconnect - the unit is now in pure bridge mode - the Internet light shouldn't light anymore, and the next device on your network will be responsible for authenticating your Internet connection and keeping it alive.
