No internet Service

Every time Verizon changes the ISP address i lose my internet service. I reboot Computer and my Modem-Router and then i seem to be ok. I should not have to go throught this ritual all the time. Lately the ISP changes every few days. Is Verizon aware of this problem or am i the only one who has the problem?

Verizon does not go and change your IP address. It is an automatic process that happens every couple of hours. As long as your router stays on and the gateway router on the network can communicate with your router, you IP address should stay the same. Your IP address can change, but as log as the conditions i just mention happens your IP should stay constant. Keep your eye on a coule things:

-make sure your router is not getting turned off.

-keep an eye on the innternet light on the router. It should be green.

If you still keep keep dropping connection (amber internet light) to the internet, you may need to call in to tech support. You may have a bad router or cabling in the home.

A few weeks ago i called tech support and they told me that Verizon changes there ISP every week and that i might have to reboot everything to get connected. I am using the Model 7500 wireless modem router that is not that old and it is a replacement for one that went bad after a couple years. Everything will work untill the ISP address changes.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up. It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?

Based upon your modem:

Visit »192.168.1.1for us and do the following:

a) If you see a Blue and White Westell page, mouse over Troubleshooting, go to DSL, and choose transceiver statistics. Copy and paste the information on that page.

b) If using the Red and Black Firmware: Go to System Monitoring > Advanced Monitors > transceiver statistics. Copy and paste the information on that page.

c) Try visiting »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm which is a direct link to the Stats on older modems.

d) If you need a Username and Password, try the following:

admin/password

admin/password1

admin/admin

admin/admin1

admin/Serial Number.

By Serial Number, I don't mean type in the words Serial Number. I mean find and type in the serial number found on the bottom of this router.

Your IP address changes due to the connection dropping. IF your connection wasn't dropping you wouldn't lose your IP 🙂

I was told by a Verizon Tech Support person that Verizons ISP address changes. Not my address but the internet service provider Address. Did they lie to me?
