DSL Router

I periodically lose the dial tone from my land line. I noticed if I disconnect my DSL router, then the dial tone is restored. I was also losing my internet connectivity periodically as well although the two didn't seem to coincide.

Do I have a defective DSL router?

Entirely possible. The first thing I would check though, is the filters.

SomeGirl is spot on ^^^^^ . I had the same issue, after replacing the filters (I had 2 spares) the issue persisted. Eventually a VZ tech came out and set up a direct connection for the DSL modem and I was able to remove all the filters - issue solved!
