When upgrading from 3M to 7.1M DSL, why does it require a service call?

Just curious. I would think it would be something handled from the office. Does it require a new modem?

It requires a homerun to the modem and a whole house filter installed at the NID. You need to be about 4,000ft or less from the Central Office for it to work at that speed.
