Westell 6100 Modem/Router and D Link Router

Ok guys. I have a Westell model 6100 Modem/Router and a D Link model DIR-615 router. It seems like I'm double natted and it's hard for me to connect to people when playing xbox or other games. I called D Link support and asked them if there was a way I could make the D Link into a switch/hub and they said no. Now I called Verizon support and they showed me how to put the Westell into bridge mode but then I couldn't access the internet at all so we had to put it back to the original settings. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do here? I'm pretty computer illiterate so don't use big words that I will have to google.
Any help would be appreciated.
