Mac Mail problem

I recently stareted having a problem with my email. I am using a Mac with Leopard , and for some reason I keep getting the message that Verizon has rejected my password and I am asked toenter it. Then it works for a while and then is rejected again. It never used to do this and I can't figure out how to stop it. Any ideas? Thanks for any help

I also have recently started having the same problem on both my laptop & desktop Mac. I have tried everything and the problem is not on the computer end. It is with Verizon. I have tried everything a& the problem is still persisting. Any help would be very appreciated.

I have also noticed this. I use two Verizon addresses (the main account plus one alias) as well as a gmail account with mac mail. Both Verizon accounts have started sporadically rejecting the stored passwords. The gmail account works fine. I've tried resetting things right in the keychain manager, but the errors continue. This only started happening in the last week or two. I can't quantify "sporadically," but whenever I first sit down at the machine there is usually a password prompt to greet me. While I'm on the computer, it will happen about once every hour or so.

Me three as of today. I have Mail set to check the server every fifteen minutes?, and every other time it asks me for my password. Of course I tell it to save it in the keychain, I've even gone into the keychain and deleted everything with Verizon in the name and then reentered it at the next go but it will doesn't stick. Definite weed in the rear end, seems like a problem on Verizon's end (unfortunately).

Now if they would also just offer imap and ssl and get rid of ads at their web-based mail site! Smiley Very Happy

"Me six" with the same problem: inconsistent prompting for an incoming password. It seems to be on the Verizon (and I believe also on Comcast) end. The issue is relatively new with no changes having been made on my end.

I'm going to suggest everyone check their settings just to be on the safe side just in case. I am pretty confident that Verizon wouldn't have changed your passwords. I'm going to recommend you call in and have someone check the settings with you.

I am having this problem and my parents are having it also. Since we are all having the same problem, and since it started around the same time for all of us, without changing things on our end, it is pretty obvious to me that it is a Verizon problem. I am a software engineer and this is my theory:

Verizon's servers started to get a bit "flaky" last week. All mail applications periodically check the servers to see if there is any new mail. When the server is acting funny and the connection is rejected when checking for mail, most mail applications probably wait and try again a little bit later. But Mac Mail probably assumes that it is getting rejected because of a bad password, so it tries to get the correct password from the user, even though it already has the correct password. In other words, the problem is there for everyone, but those of us using Mac Mail actually see the problem.

Again, that's just a theory.

So, I don't think it's any settings on our end. And from what I've heard, trying to get Verizon to give support for a Mac is almost impossible. Since this problem isn't noticable except when using Mac Mail, I'm sure they would try to blame the Mac and say it's not on their end. I've called Verizon for support in the past, and there is no way I can deal with the frustration of calling them about this one when I know it's their problem and not mine.

The only thing you can really do is to increase the amount of time between mail-checks in Mac Mail. Then it won't bother you as much. You can always hit the "Get Mail" button to check for mail in between the automatic checks. Hopefully they eventually get their server problems fixed and then you can let it check for mail more often again.

I am curious where everyone is from. Maybe it is a problem with local servers? I am from Pittsburgh.

By the way, my parents and I are both using DSL, and their computer, like mine, is in the greater Pittsburgh area.

I am located in Maryland. I did call verizon when this started and they tried to help, but all they had me do was delete my password in my keychain and start over, which didn't solve the problem.

Duh, Verizon, it's you not us! Our passwords are bloody fine. I'm on FIOS, btw.

I had this same problem, and just resolved it by editing each account, selecting the "Advanced" section, and changing the Authentication setting from "Authenticated POP (APOP)" to "Password". Since then I've not had a rejected password. Hopefully it sticks.

I don't know if it was set to "password" originally and somehow we all got switched to "APOP" or if it had always been "APOP" and for some reason "APOP" is no longer a valid option. In any case, switching to password authentication seems to work.

See the thread in the FiOS Internet Forum "Email authentication problem on only some of Verizon's servers" -- it's not a DSL or FiOS problem, it's a server authentication problem.

For Mac Mail, the suggested technique of setting the Authentication to "Password" works, but it's a workaround, not a solution. Better yet (more secure) is to use the "MD5" setting -- see the thread above for the details.

Ahhhhhhh! Ok add me to the unhappy group of Mac users who suddenly cant check email. Not just the verizon email but the yahoo email I just linked is now no longer accessible either. This is absolutely unacceptable! This is interfering with work now.

And I have seen no helpful moderator response here. I am beyond disappointed in Verizon for ignoring this issue. I can not even get somewhere to unlink these accounts because you have to log in and it wont login anywhere under either account now. If it was just my verizon account that verizon killed I could live with it, but now it has crept outside their box and I am soooo ticked!

I am a DSL customer in Virginia by the way. And passwords is not the answer, I was in yahoo just fine before I linked these accounts, and verizon email opened up with me logged in until I logged out to check yahoo. Now I can't get in to either. It doesnt even say password error, it just flips back to the login screen.

Oh! And I can't get to support because you have to login and I cant and live chat is of course no where to be found, but I am sure I would have to login for that too! And I really dont feel like spending half my day on hold trying to get help by phone! Why doesn't it just WORK like it is supposed to? I just want to unlink these @(*&$% accounts.
