can you block someone from texting you
I think you can. It will cost you though. You would need to sign up for Usage Controls which allows you to block certain numbers from calling or texting you. It currently costs $4.99/month.
You can add it via your online account or I'm sure customer service would be glad to help you.

If you have an android device and you download the app Handcent SMS and you can block people by longpressing on their name and selecting "blacklist"
if you don't have an andriod device then the only other way is to go through verizon and sign up for the Block list that's 4.99/month.
