Slow DSL connection

I have a 1 Mbps DSL connection that is intermittently slow 1 day it is running along happily at Mbps an hour later I can't even open Google. My speed drops to 250 to 230 Kbps. The modem still says 1.1 Mbps. I had a tech scheduled to come today so when I got up at 4:30 am it was fine by 5 am it was down to 245 Kbps the tech showed up at 10:30 am I raced home from work to meet with him. He checks everything is fine in fact better than most he says. Ten minutes after he leaves it starts showing 768 Kbps then 566 Kbps but the modem still shows 1.1 Mbs

We have ruled out the line coming in we believe we have ruled out the house wiring.This has been going on since the end of October.

The computers are all cleaned.

I have a Westell 327W router/modem with the following connected to it

Windows Vista computer

HP 300X printserver

the wlan is used the most with the laptop

cat45 to the hub in the basement for the kids computer and the workshop computer

The only thing that is always on is the printserver

I think it is the modem/router.

Does any one have any ideas?

Are these the stats you were asking about?

This issue gets stranger for the last 2 days speedtest.net and verizons speedtest have shown me with close to 3 mbs. Today I had to reboot the modem and I am back to 1 mbs

I couldn't help but notice that you're in Coeur d' Alene Jim. I am also in Coeur d' Alene and am experiencing very slow DSL. I have a 3mbit connection and it's always a battle with technical support to receive any help. I've even received a replacement modem at one point with no success. It seems as though the speed will decrease in the evening when the load is higher. Pings go up, packet loss increases and pretty soon you're stuck with speeds that are closer to ISDN than DSL.

What's Verizon going to do about this problem? This problem has become more noticeable in the last month or so.

Tech support pretends this problem does not exist and refuses to acknowledge it. They are also limited on what they can tell you about the problem yet given the exact source of the issue and a request for a workaround they can't tell you how to fix it. Must be a proprietory software issue and bypassing it makes them lose control of your PC. It doesn't matter if you use the 6100 direct or the 327 you will be disconnected from your LM Host and they will bypass it thru the router. This is all I can say. They would have 100% happy users if they would just stop that useless sync error. Even if you fix it it will reset itself again to bypss in 2 hours. Grab aspirin and have fun...I have a headache.
