I am on dial-up right now, because I can no longer connect to the internet with my Verizon DSL ever since Windows Vista failed to update a driver a couple of weeks ago, during regular Windows Updates. I have done extensive troubleshooting and all the tests boil down to something being wrong with the modem. The modem was working just fine, but now Windows does not recognize the device because it cannot update the drivers. It suggested going to the manufacturer's website. I found an update on the Verizon website, but the computer still does not recognize the modem.
I have a Westell 2110 DSL modem. I downloaded the upgrade from Verizon's website: B90-210015WebLoad_VER_01_00_35
The computer says I am connected to the internet via Verizon, but I have limited connectivity to the local area connection. Therefore, my computer cannot connect to the internet.
In summary, my computer no longer interfaces with my dsl modem, and yet has failed to update new drivers. Is this an example of Windows Vista not working with old hardware? Is there a way to fix this? Or do I have to buy a new modem? (expensive)
And would it happen with a new modem? I can't use the installation CD that came with the modem because it does not work with Windows Vista.
Please help! I don't want to waste money doing something that doesn't work or won't last.
Thank you
