DSL Filter Question
JPatrick
I only have Dry DSL service, no dial tone (phone) service. Do I still need the DSL Filter (I had a whole house filter) attached to my incoming line that goes to my DSL modem? I tried taking it off and I was not able to connect to the internet.

In the meantime as you wait for an answer like yes or no (and maybe why), you can try to find out by trail and error.
If you can not connect without it, you must use a filter.

If you can not connect with or without it, something else is blocking the connection...

The
only purpose of a DSL filter
is to
prevent the DSL signaling
tones
from interfering with ordinary telephone service
sharing the same line. In other words, if you did infact use the same line for DSL and (voice) telephone service, there is a possibility you might hear 'squeeling' noises on the phone when the DSL was active. If the line is used for DSL ONLY there is no reason to use a filter.

If you have dry loop Dsl you do not need any filters. If you have the filter that is wired to your nid (incoming line) You will need to make sure that the jack your using is the unfiltered jack.
