4G Scam!!

So I received the promotional e-mail that 4G was available to me and since I was eligible for an upgrade I took the special offer, paid $49.95 for my wireless 4G transponder, which of course renewed my contract for two more years and guess what? 4G isn't available in Virginia yet!!!!! I would seriously like to know how Verizon gets away with this type of scam, other than their contributions to PACs of course. I did received $9.99 off my current wireless plan but I;m still running 3G and this "new" modem is actually slower than my old one.

Don't respond to Verizon's promotional e-mail on upgrading!!

The promo offer is about getting a 4g device at a discount (which as you said can also lower the cost of your plan). The fact that the 4g service is not yet available has pretty much nothing to do with it. If you aren't satisfied return the device within 30 days, or be happy that for $50 you are going to be paying less every month for service, and will be ready for 4g as soon as it's released.

... and you seem to miss the point! Why did Verizon market 4 G service in zip codes where they knew they didn't have service!! That's the scam, part of it for me, the e-mail was presented AS IF the service was now available! Yes I can keep my new modem and wait until 4G is available,.. know what?,.. Verizon is so honest with this you cannot find any information on when they believe 4G will be available in your area. It's not up front, honest business, it's shear profit mongering for the sake of the bottom line, to hell with the customer.

So the fact that 4G service is not available does have something to do with it, that's the point of Verizon marketing a 4G device and (hear me now) SELLING IT!! I'll most likely keep the device and save the $9.99 a month but I don't like being scammed like this. If you wonder why American business is going down the tubes, look at this example, and the fact thatVerizon's help/support function is OVERSEAS. It's a scam so they can add money to the coffers, no doubt because they don't have the money they need to build the 4G system (and keep up with AT&T) they want to build. If I pay for 4G service, I WANT 4G SERVICE!

They marketed the service in non 4G areas to save you $10 a month and put a device in your hands that can utilize the service as soon as it is in your area. As far as Verizon help/support being overseas, I think you are way off base. I have NEVER talked to a Verizon rep sales, service or otherwise that was outside the U.S. To the best of my knowledge Verizon Wireless doesn't have any foreign sales or support departments.

By the way, how are they adding money to the coffers by providing you service for $10 less per month???? And if you believe Verizon needs to keep up with AT&T please check your facts. AT&T won't even BEGIN building their 4G LTE network until 2012 at last report. Verizon will have theirs completed in spring 2013. Seems to me you have the wrong team leading the race.

Let me get this straight You coming out ahead $190 is a scam, that is your point?

1) You were eligible for an upgrade and Verizon offered the only product they sell. To market it, they offered an extra $50 off the sale and $10/mo discount.or $240.

2) You had the option to ignore the offer. You had the option to return the device.

3) If you return the device, you maintain your existing 3g and pay your current rate.

4) If you keep the device, you maintain your existing 3g, get 4g when it is available and pay $190 less. I don't see how you are worse off.

You are able to use these forums and are apparently aware that 4g is being rolled out. Even 3g is not available everywhere. It is up to you to make sure something works for you..

Sorry, I missed this part. Still don't understand how paying $10/mo less is paying for 4g service. Plus the new plans are less anyway.

I'm not sure you can call it a scam. I was able to go to the Verizon site put in my address and it told me if 4G was available for my address. What I can say is this, It is not fast enough to lose my 3g unlimited data account for. I am really disappointed in the speed. I think it's going back.

It is much worse if you currently have an unlimited data plan on a 3G card. They tell you in passing AFTER you pay them that the there is no unlimited plan on 4G. In fact, there are no unlimited plans on 3G. So, if you go in to get a 3G card you get a contract modification there too. Also, if you bring it back, there is a restocking fee. Scam, scam , scam.
