Booting Up

When I boot up my computer, Windows Installer tries to install FAX.MSI which I have no CD for and I don't want. I get an error code 1706 and I have to to to hit cancel a couple of times quickly to get rid of it. I can't use computer until I have done this. It is time consuming and aggrevating. How the

request to install Fax got started, I don't know. This happens every time I start up my computer.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this from happening.

DId you install any new printers or cards for the computer? If not...Somewhere somehow someone must have hit a link to install some rogue software on the computer. You can try this:

Go to start and select run

type msconfig and hit enter

If using vista, just type msconfig in the search

This will open the system configuration Utilkity

sleect the startup tab

you will see a bunch of boxes checked. THese are the programs trying to run everytime you start your computer. Locate anything that has to do with FAX.MSI and uncheck it. If there is anything else that doesn't seem proper you may uncheck those too.

When your done, select ok and restart your computer.

I could not identify or see anything listed with Fax included, so I made no changes. I don't know how to identify it to stop it. Do you have any other suggestions? THANKS

Not withour looking at it. Sometimes some of the checked options may say something like install, or reboot. If you don't see anything like that, you can try unchecking one at a time, rebooting and move on to thenext. It's time consumming I know...but heck, you have all day... 😉
