1. I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 with a NetGear Range Wireless PC Card WPN511. I can connect to the internet when I disable the WEP key. When I do an ipconfig on my laptop, the router assigns an IP address 192.168.1.47 and everything works fine.
2. When I enable a 64-bit WEP key, it appears the router will not assign an IP address to the laptop. I get the following message in the event viewer: "Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address 00223FADC2F. The IP address being used is 169.254.69.16". When I do an ipconfig, 169.254.69.16 shows up but none of the other information about the router (for example, "Connection-specific DNS Suffix: myhome.westell.com").
3. DCHP is enabled on the router (in fact, I haven't changed any of the router setting except for the WEP key). The xbox in the basement connects to the router with WEP enabled.
4. I have done every conceivable thing: reboot computer, laptop, router; flushed, released, renewed, registered the connection. All windows software is updated and all the latest patched applied. Network adaptor drivers updated, etc.
--> How do I get an IP address for my laptop so I can connect to the internet?
Thanks,
Dave
