Transfering Mobile Number

I apologize in advance if this is not the correct forum for this question. I wasn't sure which topic this falls under.

I am currently part of a family plan as an additional line. However, I am getting another phone on T-mobile soon, but intend to keep my line on Verizon because I do not want to pay any early termination fees. Can I transfer my current mobile number to another phone in T-mobile, but instead of terminating my line's contract with Verizon, can I change my Verizon phone number to another phone number? (I am aware that it costs $15 to change your phone number on Verizon under normal circumstances.)

For example if I was to cancel my line today. There would be an ETF. But I believe you can not come back for 6 months and start a new account, your old account would be reactivated and you would use whatever phone you had,continue the contract you had and the ETF charged if already paid would be credited back or just wiped from the system if not already paid.

I would call to make sure, but i am pretty certain it can be done easily.

No, your phone number is tied to your contract. If you port your number out, it will end that line's service with Verizon and your contract as well, incurring the ETF. That number has to stay with Verizon until the end of your contract to avoid the ETF.

If my phone number is tied to my contract, why can I change my phone number for $15? Why should I not be able to do the same thing here?

Because porting your number to a different carrier and releasing your number in exchange for a new, random number are two different things. It's Verizon's policy (and that of every other carrier as far as I know) to cancel an account when the number is ported to another carrier.

The only way that I have ever heard of this working is to port out your current number, that will suspend your vzw line until the end of the bc, at which point it will disconnect... then call back to vzw and request to reconnect the line with a different phone number. I would suggest calling in and asking about this though, to see if it's still viable.

I have an alltel prepaid cell and i was wondering if i can transfer that number to a family plan contract verizon cell
