Verizon Alaska?

Hello

I currently reside in Anchorage, Alaska and am with AT&T. It's the time where my contract is up and I'm ready to make a change. I've heard many rumors that Verizon is going to buy out ACS, which is the CDMA network up here. Is there any truth to that, or are they just rumors? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have, also, heard these rumors.

I have my Verizon driod phone that I have been using since I moved here in August. My husband works on the slope and I got my mom a cell phone on our family plan about 2 years ago (she lives in Kenai). I have been hoping that Verizon will acquire ACS or actually get some stores here. I looked at the investor sites and news archives for ACS and Verizon and no announcements have been made, so I cannot make any confirmations on the rumors about Verizon. I know that I had a difficult time when I damaged my Droid and Verizon mailed me a replacement phone because you cannot activate a Verizon smart phone on the ACS network. I had to mail my new cell phone to my sister in Washington to activate then have her mail it back to me (I wish they had a store in Anchorage!).

I wouldn't bank on Verizon coming to Alaska anytime soon, it makes me think of the Olive Garden rumors that I have been hearing since I was in high school 15 years ago! If you are in the states and get a phone it has good coverage up here, but remember to activate it before you get to Alaska!
