Why did I pay $49.99 for a modem I thought they rent this for $ 7.oo a month
As long as have been with VZ (10+ years) I have never been charged for a "standard" modem or router and I have had at least 5 different units. Did you order an upgrade for your equipment ?

I second this. Normally, unless you're buying a DSL Gateway on service that normally doesn't include the Gateway for free (for Wireless service, for example), Verizon has always given me free modems when I needed them.
