I need to know why VerizonFios is removing Cloo Channel from the line up today August 15, 2014
Verizon is never going to say exactly why, but I'm guessing it has to do with cost and the fact that it's not a very popular channel. Low ratings, repeats of shows that can be found on other networks, and bandwidth could be other factors. Most people have no clue what the channel was, that they even had it, never watched it, etc..
I know I never once watched the channel even though I knew it was there.
Some other providers dropped it as well, some brought it back, and Directv moved it to their ultimate tier so to me it has "cost" all over it.
I am so NOT HAPPY at the moment. I watch CLOO every day. Just POOF and they pull it. I may change my subscription level as that is the reason I went with the Extreme Package.
Welcome to the forums. You're talking to other customers here. None of us has any power to control the FiOS line up. Nor can we do anything in response to threats to change service providers.
Enjoy!
I was also very disappointed this morning to discover that CLOO has been removed from the lineup. I would love for it to return. Not sure how to make that happen. It is one of the few channels that I can count on that will have something I enjoy playing everyday. Verizon please bring it back 😞

I, too am very upset that Verizon pulled CLOO from the lineup. It is definitely the reaon I went for the Extreme package. I certainly am going to consider some changes. I watch CLOO all the time and can almost always find something I enjoy watching on it. Very disappointed in Verizon.
I was away over the weekend and came back to discover the missing CLOO. I am simply horrified. I know it's just a TV channel, and life's to short to really get upset about such trivial things, but it was one of my favorites. Loved revisiting MacGyver after all these years, among other things.
Saddest part is that after a 40-minute online chat with Verizon, their people insisted the channel was still in my package -- they didn't have any information to contrary. I had to come here to discover the truth.
Let's start a campaign to bring it back!
As an FYI,you can watch MacGyver for free at http://www.cbs.com/shows/macgyver/ (with commercials) or if you have Netflix, you can watch it without commercials as a part of your Netflix subscription.
The other things Cloo shows are mostly repeatedly aired on USA, Universal HD, or one several other TV stations owned by the Scheinhardt Wig Company (or KableTown). (Lots of the Law & Orders are also on Netflix.)
I must have missed that information because for sure this morning i go to watch Law n order Criminal Intent and couldn't, thought something was wrong with my TV. Yes sure you can watch some of the shows on other channels, or Netflix, or whichever, that isnt the point.. the point is this is the USA we should have got a vote What's next TVLAND? they play mostly all repeats but in this day its good to watch the old stuff.
It's one of the reasons why I purchased Verizon Fios too. I am so angry! There's no explanation, no survey of customers, nothing. I really wish they would put it back!
Umm ... you do know that companies are not a democracy, right? If you don't like the service a company offers, your "vote" is to not do business with them.

My wife and I are extremely unhappy that you have removed the CLOO channel - when there was nothing else we wanted to watch, we would find that CLOO would give us something to pass an hour or two. We really want it back!
I have to say I am extremely unhappy about Verizon once again deciding it was going to pull a channel without letting their customers know ahead of time. I switched to the higher tier package in order to get Cloo and another channel, which I might add I had at the lower tier but Verizon chose to pull it from the lower tier and only make it available to the higher tier customers. And with that I was still in the middle of the 2 yr agreement with them, so how is it they can just pull a channel from my tier and make it only available in the higher tier? Greed that's how, pure and utter greed. It's not enough I have a triple packaeg for my home, I also have cell service through verizon and they are still not satisfied that want more money from mr so they pull some of my fav channels and only make them avail at a higher tier. Now this...completely pulling a channel is ridiculous and you can't tell me it's because of money, Verizon is a multi billion dollar company and I doubt one channel with low ratings is going to put them under!! Verizon I ask that you think of your customers before you think of your pockets, because it is after all us who is paying your salaries and it is us who allows you to have your jobs. So please BRING BACK CLOO...............another thought you may want to consider a package where a customer pays for "X" number of channels and they pick the channels they want, because God knows I don't need 30 news channels or sports channels and so on. Make an A-la carte package. Just a thought.
I agree with several on thie board. I've stuck with FIOS because of the CLOO channel. I don't watch sports or any of the other junk shows! Bring it back!
Universal HD runs Monk, Burn Notice, and House constantly. And unlike Cloo, it runs them in HD.
@nyrngrs694 wrote:Came home from a miserable day at work. Was looking forward to monk, or house, or burn notice or anything that doesn't resemble real housewives, or dance moms, or the bachelor, or honey freakin boo boo only to find that verizon no long has cloo!!! This stinks. I don't watch much tv, but when I do, it's cloo. Get it together verizon.
@DirtLady wrote:weird...CLOO still showed up when I search for SVU but it could switch to the channel. please bring the channel back. I signed a 2-yr contract. is this bait & switch?
No it's not bait and switch. If you read your terms of service (and all providers are the same way) it says they can add, change, remove channels/packages at anytime.

And AJ-TV (al jeserra, excuse my spelling, don't care) has better ratings?
Bandwidth? there's so many junk infomercial channels, shopping channels, and propaganda channels on ALL provider lineups, be they traditional cable, satellite, whatever.
CLOO is part of the Comcast/NBC/Universal lineup, - USA, SiFi, U-HD, to name a few; biggest player in the ring. so you want to bet this is all a power play somewhere, and either more channels from that stable will start to disappear, or who knows.
CLOO is still in Direct-TV 308.
I had been waiting for it to go HD; it was one of my favorites, that had no overload of reality tv or informercials. Just good old TV.
I am a regular watcher of Cloo - and I do not appreciate it being removed without notice - You did not lower my cable bill but are taking away services. This is not acceptable and when my contract is up I will be looking into dish.
Not sure where the notices were, but someone on DSLreports mentioned its planned removal in a post 2014-Jun-7.
@tns_2 wrote: Not sure where the notices were, but someone on DSLreports mentioned its planned removal in a post 2014-Jun-7.
I dont know if they were put on the bills, but I sure got a message in my message center on my dvr about it.
@travelgrams wrote: I am a regular watcher of Cloo - and I do not appreciate it being removed without notice - You did not lower my cable bill but are taking away services. This is not acceptable and when my contract is up I will be looking into dish.
All providers add/change/remove channels all of the time. Dish and Directv being the worst of all. Don't be surprised if you switch it happens with certain channels there as well. Its in the TOS that things can change at anytime.
Directv dropped Cloo at one time then brought it back and put it in their ultimate tier.
I know most of the shows are available on other channels, but not all the time. That's the great thing about Cloo -- there's always something to watch. And occasionally they throw in some different shows.
With what I'm paying Verizon, I shouldn't have to have a Netflix subscription or do other video streaming, as some suggest. I keep threatening to cut the cord entirely and just do streaming, but I'm still hanging on. If I lose more of my favorite channels, though, I'll have to reconsider when my stupid contract is up.
Wow. So disappointed. I also watch CLOO often and it is the only reason I have the Extreme Package. Crazy!
Please bring back the Cloo channel!!!!!!
Cloo TV was one of our favorite channels with our favorite programs in marathon / binge mode. We now have a big hole in our daily TV habits. THE TV WILL NOW BE OFF if we can't find our shows elsewhere. I'm sure your advertisers will appreciate that. We WILL NOT renew our package when the contract is up. Shame on you!!!
What a rotten thing to do.
I hope this is not about pennies and change, because if it is that is why a lot of people left comcast and came to fios.
Keep it up and maybe you also will gain a poor reputation.
sad reall sad to see cloo go.
Make you want to look around for another alternative.
When I got back from my summer home I discovered FIOS dropped Cloo. I have Comcast at my summer home and even though my neighbors there claim Comcast does not provide steller cable what they offer there is far superior to FIOS in the number of channels available, including CLOO! They may not have as many HD channels but the include Encore, Starrz and additional channels that FIOS does not offer. Additionally, they have a gigantic free film library. FIOS will be losing a customer as soon as my contract expires.
{please keep it relevant} Vote with your feet and as soon as possible leave FIOS. They have a great deal of money invested in getting their signal to your door and every customer they lose hurts. Maybe they need to hurt financially and then they will stop cutting service while raising prices.
While my TV was powering up this afternoon, I punched in 186 on the cable box, only to find that it isn't there anymore!
I often had CLOO on all day, weekdays and weekends. I really hope that Verizon reconsiders this and brings the channel back. Are you really saving that much money by ... wait, I'm not saving any money! Are you saving money at my expense? Please bring CLOO back.
I am also upset that FIOS just pulls channels without informing their customers. Love the channel...and wou;d be quite willing to join a protest to bring CLOO back!!!
I too am very disappointed that Verizon has dropped CLOO without prior notice-I really enjoyed this channel and was a regular watcher.
I find it impolite of Verizon to just pull a channel. I like many of the shows that the channel offered I would watch it at least two to three hors a week. I hope it comes back in some other forum. If your looking for bandwith then I have a suggestion, get rid of Fox News Channel. Those guys are not unbiased.
Where is the CLOO channel 186? You have a lot of nerve to turn off our favorite program due to costly that will ruin our budget or for low income fix... come one what is going on shame on you!
BRING BACK CLOO !!!!!! I need my BURN NOTICE FIX, MONK , I mean Monk, white collar I need white collar binge.
I want Cloo, I want Cloo
What happened to CLOO?
I was really diasappointed when verizen stopped CLOO channel. It was my back up when nothing else seemed right on TV. The shows were familar and it was the dramas I really appreciated . I know there is more then just me out there. Its times we make a stand. Its not like that put something else on the channel. It is a little freaky when you type 186 for the channel and it gives you 185. Its not what I wanted or asked for. How many repeat channels can we have, have you really looked at your line up lately. To be honest you might say you have 500 channels but when you really look at it, its a repeat from digital to HD, its not even a new channel. So everyone out there, time to stand up and ask for your favorite channels back.
Bring back CLOO or I am changing cable companies.
I watched the CLOO channel all the time. If they want to drop some channels, why not drop some of the cooking channels, or some of the sports channels, or some of the music video channels? I am very irritated that CLOO was dropped, and I am thinking of going with another cable company or satellite.
I agree with you. I am very irritated that the pulled the CLOO channel, and beginning September 15, they are pulling Universal HD (Channel 567). I watch that channel a lot, too.
I may switch providers, too. They have soooooooooooooo many sports channels and music video channels, and yet the pull the CLOO channel and next month they are pulling the Universal HD channel (Channel 567). I am very irritated.
Well, in case you didn't know, the Universal HD channel is being pulled, too. I'd like to see the LOGO channel removed if they want to remove one.
Universal HD is being cancelled, too.
@MarilynRae wrote: Universal HD is being cancelled, too.
Universal Hd is not being canceled. However it will only be available in the Ultimate package.
Where did you see this information? In some markets it is being removed from Extreme HD and will only be in Ultimate HD, but it's not going all together.
I understand the people on here liked Cloo, but real world numbers say the channel just wasnt that popular and part of the reason is because it wasnt in HD. I'm beating NBCUniversal/Comcast wanted more money to keep carrying the channel (contract was probably up) and Verizon said no so the channel was dropped. This is usually the case, but who really knows the exact reason. A lot of networks require channels to be carried as part of a package deal. They either carry all or none. Cloo was not one of them.
OMG I cannot believe Verizon Dropped CLOO 186 CHANNEL....I watched that everyday. I know for sure if they do not come back with it I am dropping my subscription with Verizon and going with Comcast.
I was watching a Suits marathon at 2:45 a.m. on Monday morning after getting home from work (I work late into the night) and *poof,* the Fios box reset and Cloo was gone. In the middle of a Suits marathon! That's a felony in my household. We're going back to Cablevision. I came over to Fios simply to get Cloo when Cablevision didn't have it, and now I can go back on an extremely cheap refugee-from-Fios plan. I won't mind having News 12 NJ again; Channel One News just doesn't cut it.
When I looked at the list of channels moved, didn't notice CLOO removed!
So when will I see a credit on my bill? HA Why not remove any of the 180 channels (like non English & sports) that I pay for and never watch...time to look to switch back to Optium.
I am so upset too. I had to uprage to the ultimate package just to get the channel and now it's gone. That was the only reason I upgraded.
@slp0512 wrote: I am so upset too. I had to uprage to the ultimate package just to get the channel and now it's gone. That was the only reason I upgraded.
But it was on Extreme....

Only in certain markets. Each market is dfifferent when it comes to channel packages and what you get. What one gets for channels in Florida under Extreme is going to be different from what one in NYC gets.
You must not be a fan of "NCIS". Over the past several months, NBC Universal has moved the majority of NCIS airings to Cloo, with USA showing much less of it, and usually when they do, it's only episodes from Seasons 1 and 2.
I'm smart enough to know there's nothing anyone can do about this, except make a personal choice to cut the cord. The day the NFL goes over the top with RedZone, I won't have FiOS, or any of their competitors.
i just called verizon and was told that the price went up so that is why they cancelled the channel 186
@bella325 wrote: i just called verizon and was told that the price went up so that is why they cancelled the channel 186
That's one of the reasons I mentioned in previous posts and makes sense because almost every time a channel is dropped its because of cost. Since Verizon has to pay x amount per subscriber if the real world viewership isn't there then it doesn't make sense to pay more and keep carrying it. Unfortunately Cloo was not part of a package deal with NBC Universal so any contracts were for the single channel. Most people on here loved the channel but considering how many subscribers to fios that there are throughout the U.S. the real world number ratings for the channel obviouslly werent high enough to cover the new higher cost to carry the channel. Fios doesnt have as much coverage throughout the U.S. as other cable providers so other providers not only have more subscribers they most likely have different deals to carry the channel.
If people want to make a stink about it they should be contacting Cloo and tell them to lower the costs to carry the channel. Directv once dropped the channel for the same reason, but later brought it back for their ultimate tier. NBC/Cloo probably gave in and lowered the cost to carry it and set up and new deal for it long term.
By the way, I did read some announcements just now about certain channels being dropped, posted on the bottom of the *paper* bill, which I usually don't even pull up when paying my bill. As long the charges and the amounts look right on the billing screen on line, then I pay the bill so I can be done with it. It really is too much information and who really has the time to read through all of that? I don't have time either to check STB messages on my TV with so many channels, I can't even remember what half of them are. Just saying that I'm not surprised that many people including myself didn't know about this channel being dropped ahead of time. It's a pain in the neck when I make or receive phone calls and then have to go on line or onto my TV menu screen to clear the call history.
I figured anyway this had to do with cost and the ratings on the national level. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to make a stink about this either. It really seems inconsequential. Nothing ever stays the same.
Another question I have is whether any particular re-run of a TV series is going to be played back forever on any TV station or just on TV in genereal. Seriously. Any time there is a particular movie or TV series that I want to have as part of my own collection for the long run, I'll purchase the DVD and keep it in the house to view anytime.
