Verizon HighSpeed DSL

Verizon's advertised "HighSpeed" DSL is the absolute worst internet service. Their high end DSL plan bosts results of 1.1 to 3.0 MbPs. In Sykesville MD we average 1.2 to 1.7 on a good day (hardly HighSpeed by today's standards). Our service lately seems to get worse each and every month . We wish there were better provider options in our area. Verizon needs to improve upon its outdated and deteriorating field lines and infrastructure and remember the customers in established communities that have supported them from the beginning. Seems like only the new communities and developments get any attention.

Yes, Verizon "high speed" DSL is a joke. I'm on the 3 Mbps plan, but normally only see 1-1.5 Mbps, unless I can get tech support to reset the line (or whatever they do). Then speed goes to normal for a day or two, but eventually, I'm right back down to 1-1.5 Mbps.

The phones lines in my neighborhood are underground, so I guess it's safe to assume I'll never see Fios at my house. No way they're taking on that upgrade project.

The only other Internet option is Comcast, and I've heard horror stories from neighbors about their service quality.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up. It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
