The Versalink 7500 DSL modem/router has a username and password setting. For hardwired (as opposed to wireless) use, do the username and password need to be set at all, and if so should they be set to my Verizon DSL username and password or to something else?
The context in which I am asking is that I am using the Versalink for the first time with an existing Verizon DSL account. The PC is connected to the Versalink with an ethernet cable and is itself new, running Windows 8. The computer seems to automatically connect to the internet (successfully, it appears) but I cannot sign into my Verizon account. When I try, error 651 (a nonspecific modem error) is generated.
