My computer reports that my wireless connection is unsecure. It reports WPA2-Personal. I have a Verizon (Actiontec) M1424WR router. How do I make it secure? I thought WPA2 was the best encryption type.
To answer roaddogg, it was Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center on my laptop that showed the network was unsecured. I had changed the router password and encryption months ago but something else must have occurred that did not complete the setup. Because I could not remember the router username and password I just reset the router, connected to it with a wire, and started over again following the link that JOSEm441 replied with. That worked! All is good - Windows 7 reports the proper security type of WPA2. This time I have recorded the router username and password. Thanks for your help.

wpa2 is secure and is the most secure level. What program are you using that is saying its not?
Agree with roaddogg, Have you changed your default password for wireless? It may not be absolutley necessary but See instructions here for how to get the the screen http://www.actiontec.com/products/datasheets/How%20to%20change%20your%20wireless%20security%20settings%20MI424wr.pdf if you want to create a longer key (up to 63 characters).
Personally I always change the default on a new router and make it much longer than the "stock" 16 characters.
Also check your computer for malware, with your Anti Virus program as well as a malware scanner such as Malwarebytes free verion.
Also the Mi424WR is normally for FIOS, is that what you have or do you have DSL?

If Jose provided you with a detailed method for solving your issue, why did you give yourself credit for solving the issue, instead of giving the credit where it belongs: Jose?
Think about it. He provided his experience and ideas at a very low price.
I switched my router's encryption to WPA2 last night and rebooted the router. I noticed I can't connect to my laptop any more. What do I need to connect to my router ?
Thanks

You will need to forget the network from your router, and then re-join it using the new WPA2 password you set. The password is case sensitive, so take note of that.
If this isn't the problem, you will want to try a driver update.
