Wireless Internet Connection ??

Hello:

I have a MiniMac my OS is 10.6.8. I am using a Verizon Westell 7500.

I have been trying to setup a wireless connection from my Mac to the Gateway (Westell).

The Wireless in the Westell is on and the Airport in the MiniMac is on. I have tried to use Network Preferences to set-up the wireless connection.

But, when I use Airport Utility it does a scan, and says no connection found.

I am able to set-up a wireless connection with my printer which is a Brother Worksmart MFC-J470DW.

What is it that I'm not doing?

Don't use Enterprise on the network for WPA2. You need a RADIUS server for that to work effectively, and that can be a bit of a hassle to set up. Just use Personal and set a pre-shared key you'd like to use.

If the Mac continues to fail to pull an IP while Wirelessly connected, remove the Wireless interface and then re-add it on the Mac. in AirPort, select "Wi-FI" and then click the Minus sign at the bottom of the window. When the Wi-Fi interface is gone, click the + button, and add Wi-Fi again by selecting Wi-Fi from the drop-down menu.

Doing the above will completely reset the Wi-FI settings on the Mac. I'd also venture a check into the Keychain Access program on the Mac under Applications > Utilities to be sure there's nothing stray sitting around over there with your wireless network listed in the entry. Your machine won't get an IP if it's trying to authenticate with a bad key.

When you setup the connection on the MAC I assume at some point you need to enter the wireless password. Once suggestion I read was to start the password with a $

OK - I have now entered the password, but I am getting "Airport has no IP address" although the Airport signal does show full on the tool bar (it was'nt before I did the password).

Where do I enter the IP address and where do I get it from? Is the IP address the same as the Westell

URL?

The IP address should be supplied by the router, it would be something like192.168.1.x - x being a number between 2 and 9. Are you able to login to the router to check some settings?

Yes, I have actually logged into the Westell several times this evening - I've looked at the Wireless

area - but, asside from the setting for turning the wireless on or off (it is in the on position) that is what

I was checking. The rest of the settings are as they were.

Also, I had no problem using our previous Mac which was a G5 with OS 10.4+ with the same Westell.

So, I'm not sure if the problem is with the setting on the Mac or the Westell. As I mentioned earlier - the

Airport is working with the printer, so I'm guessing that would mean that the settings for the Airport are

correct in the Network Preferances.
