We recently purchased a house less than a quarter mile from our old house. We had some issues obtaining DSL in the old house but after a month or so we were able to get it. The new house we checked throughout the buying process and it showed that DSL was available. I even checked other houses in the area to see if DSL was available and it was. About a week before closing DSL was suddenly not available and the houses in the area I checked also showed that DSL was not available. I called Verizon to see what the situation was and was told that the house was outside the DSL service area and was to many line miles away from the central office. I explained that I had checked nearly every day for the last 2 months and it was available and was told that I must have been looking at the phone service (I was not) because the house is too far from an office to receive a signal. At the closing I mention it to the sellers who said they had Verizon DSL at the house in the past most recently about a year ago but dropped it because they weren’t really using it. It sounds to me that the area is just not accepting any new accounts at this time but could when more space is freed on the system. My problem is my wife and I are both attending classes online and need an internet connection. If the system is full we are willing to wait to see what happens but if we are in fact suddenly to far from the office we’ll have to sign up for expensive satellite and it’s 2 year contract. We really just need to know if the house is to far or not. Being that it’s had internet before and was available for 2 months tells me that it can and should have it again but how long is anyone’s guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
