I'm in Laurel, MD in the Russett area. I have a 3 Mbit down / 768k up DSL service and verizon land line for voice.
I had speed and line dropping problems with the old Westell 2200 modem but then I received a new Actiontec GT784WNV and have the same problems with it so there's likely something wrong with the line quality.
I'm a Software engineer and have some experience with network set-up, I use a standalone PC firewall and the
DSL modem is in bridged mode.
Home PC -> netgear switch -> ipcop firewall -> Actiontec GT784WNV (bridged mode) -> verizon ISP
This does work fine a lot of the time, then suddenly the network gets really slow. Usually some time in the
late afternoon and into the evening. I've confirmed the speed drop with the speed tests on http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest. My firewall also records logs of when connections and drops occur, a bad day looks like this:

I've also noticed lots of buzzing in the voice line, I've removed all phone equipment with exception of the dsl modem, that does not help. I've also removed all line noise sources I can think of including turning off dimmer lights, CFL lights, phones not in use and their dsl filters. I've also replaced the wall RJ11 jack to the modem with a new one.
I then went and unbridged the Actiontec modem to get into the stats page and got these values when
it was having speed and connection problems:
