I've had enough. Verizon's support is awful.
For months I've had an OK internet connection, even though the speed was sometimes changing for no reason from 5 Mbps to 7, then maybe a month later to 5, then 7 again, etc... at least I didn't have any disconnections and I didn't have any lag when gaming online.
About a month ago, after a thunderstorm, my connection started dropping a lot and when it was up the speed would randomly range from 0.3 Mbps to 4.5 Mbps. I contacted support and a technician was sent to my home. Oddly enough, the exact same day the connection was back to normal: 5.5 Mbps, no disconnections and when restarting the modem the connection was made immediately. Obviously the technician told me that if everything was OK then he wouldn't be able to find the source of the problem so he took a look around and left.
A few days later the connection started dropping again, with the usual random speeds and online gaming lag. I waited a few days to see if it would get better (it didn't) and contacted Verizon again. This time I was told my case was transferred to tier 2 support and that everything would be fixed by July 4th 5pm. As you can guess, nothing was fixed by then.
Today I get an automated phone call telling me they want to make an appointment and when I try to make the appointment the automated thing just hangs up. So I contact Verizon support again. I'm told the ticket was closed because they tried to contact me and I didn't answer. I explain I was hung up on on the phone. So the support guy tells me he's going to escalate the ticket and that a supervisor would call me in the next 2 hours to make the appointment. It's like 8 hours later and, you guessed it, nobody called me.
So my conclusion is that nobody actually cares if the service doesn't work. Looking online it seems you have to have FIOS for Verizon to care. DSL is too old and expensive to maintain.
