Upgrading from Fios Internet-only to Internet+TV: a VZ router needed?

Hello all,

I am about to add Fios TV to my internet-only Fios plan. My home is quite large and wired with Cat6 and Coax in all rooms. I use Ubiquiti equipment for routing, switching, and WiFi.

From what I read here, it seems I must use a Verizon router for TV service to work? I thought I could just plug the Coax out of the ONT into the Verizon cable box, like traditional CATV. But I've see some installations where the coax of the ONT is split in two, one goes to an old-fashioned Verizon router and the other goes to the Verizon cable box. All very confusing! Can someone shine a light for me please? Thank you!

The Verizon Router is needed to supply the Fios boxes with data they need for menus, PPV and on-demand. There is a way around it, but it is complicated and pretty buggy, and you would need a router that can provide a MoCa network. The setup is both coax and Cat 5 go from ONT to a Fios router, Somewhere along the line is a splitter that goes to the VMS Fios box and the router.The IPC can go either WiFi, coax or cat 5, wired is preferable.
