5G Home Test - getting 20-40 mbps, with occasional 250-300. Is this normal?

Doing the 30 day test at home. New Verizon 5G tower within 200 yards of my home. Got the home unit and no trouble getting running. But most test (Speedtest.net; Fast.com, etc) are all yielding 20-40 mbps at all hours of day or night. However, without any rhyme or reason, it will suddenly run at 250-300mbps - so the capability seems to be there.

Anyone else having similar results?

If 20-40 is the norm, this will not be worth switching.

BTW - putting the modem on the window sill within visual site of the 5G tower does not help.

Replying to my own question. It turns out that I can get consistent high speeds of ~250 mbps if my wifi connection to the Verizon router is on the 5ghz connection. The Verizon router, by default, broadcast both a 2.4ghz and a 5gz wifi signal. When my phone switched to the 2.4ghz connection, my speed would be limited to 40 mbps.

I was able to resolve the inconsistent speed by going into the Verizon router settings and disabling the broadcast of 2.4 ghz wifi. The better solution would be to have given the 2.4ghz and the 5gzh different SSID names so that I could choose which to connect to. But I've not figured out how to do this just yet.

I'm impressed so far... seems to be super fast and a good replacement for Xfinity home internet

What is your 5G signal level? I am 500 yards away from the tower and getting 300/20 all the times .
