Improve voip calls

I’m trying to improve my VoIP calls that are attached to the 5G router. The voip device is hard connected to the lan port on the router. I sometimes have poor calls. It was suggested that I assign an IP address to the voip device. I don’t see that ability in the 5 g home router. Any suggestions?
