4100 STB & Sony KD-43X85K

I discovered an interesting situation with my Sony KD-43X85K television and 4100 STB.

I was watching the Boston Red Sox game this evening on channel 1494 (NESN 4K).

I turned off the TV and STB when heading to the kitchen for supper. After eating, I turned the STB & TV back on using the 4100's remote (as I normally do)

Instead of seeing the game in progress, I saw the following appear on the screen:

Interesting...my television is 4K.

I ran the 4K troubleshooting tool and closed it out as it didn't catch anything. Once it closed, the game appeared on the screen as expected.

Being the inquisitive type, I turned everything off, waited for about 15 minutes, and turned everything back on. Saw the same message.

I turned everything off, waited again, but this time, I turned on the TV first, waited about 15 seconds and then turned on the STB.

Voila'! The game came on right away.

So, based on my non-scientific testing, at least when connected to a Sony KD-xxX85K television and turning on to a 4K channel....turn the TV on first, wait 10 or so seconds and then turn on the STB.

We do have a Samsung 4K television in the house. If the opportunity arises, I will test that set and see what happens.

It seems like the STB is too quick to fail the three televisions.

Could be the box takes too long to verify the TVs ability to display 4K content when first starting up to the 4K channels. The test basically verifies that. Don't know if there is anything to be done from here except hoping they can fix that on the next APR update.

In the menus on the Sony under Advanced Settings, Video Options, are HDR mode, HDMI Video Range and Color Space all set to Auto? Is the Fios box under Main Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings set to 2160P? Is the Main Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings > HDR Setting set to Enable? If all of those are set correctly it could be on power up, the Fios box is looking for the TV 's ability to show 4K HDR and is not sensing it quickly enough to avoid the error message.

Hi Clem!

The STB optioning checks out.

The Sony's menu structure is different than the one listed. I don't recall making any changes to the video optioning during the initial setup.

I could factory default the television's optioning, but I'm almost certain that it won't be the problem.

I'm leaning towards your suspicion that the problem is that the STB isn't detecting the Sony's 4K capability fast enough.

We do have a larger version of my television in the living room. I tried the same test on that television, and the same results occurred.

Still don't have access to the Samsung television.

The menu setup I used was from My Sony 85" TV. Yours is under: https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/jusltn1/v1/en-003/01-03-09_01.html Video Signal. All should be on Auto. Also the Fios box needs to be setup for 2160P. Are you also using a High-Speed certified HDMI cable between the Fios box and the TV? Could also try changing to an HD channel before turning off the TV and box and see if the same problem happens. Might be something to do with the Fios box never really turning off when you hit the power off on the remote.

The link guided me right to the optioning.

Everything is set to Auto. with my 43"-bedroom television and the living room's 50" television.

All cabling is 8K compatible.
