Can't receive calls from certain people

Last couple of days, neither my wife nor my son can call my iPhone. They get a Verizon message "the number cannot be completed as dialed." I went through all the diagnosis steps with a Verizon tech, and he is stumped. Eventually he gave up and told me to call Apple! I don't think it's an Apple issue. More information:

- no problem getting texts
- other people, including my daughter, can call me. Just not my son or wife.
- if my wife uses *67 to call anonymously, it works
- I've gone through all the settings, made sure nobody was blocked, removed the contact records of my wife and son.
- it's odd that only two people, whose contacts I've had on my phone forever, can't call me, but others can.

The Verizon network is generating that message. I don't know what to try next.

An interesting thing I found elsewhere on the internet is that this error can be caused by poor signal strength, either on the caller's end or the recipient's end. Using Wi-Fi calling would get around that problem. The only other things I can think of are:

-Something's changed with an upgrade somewhere and you need to dial the full number (1 + area code + phone number) to get it to work.

-Your number has been spoofed by a crook. When someone tries to call a spoofed number, can cause errors, but anyone attempting to call a spoofed number would have trouble, not just 1-2 people.

That is indeed strange that two contacts that you've had for a long time in your phone are not able to call you, njx. I appreciate all of the troubleshooting you've already gone through. What happens if your wife manually dials your number from her phone instead of using her stored contact? What changed with your device before this issue first started?

Manually dialing the number doesn't work, either. We even removed our mutual contact records from our phones.

Nothing has changed on my device to my knowledge. I've had it for quite a while. And, as I said, it's just limited to two people. My daughter just called me and it worked. It doesn't seem like it's related to the phone.

So, nothing further? We have four lines with Verizon. If this can't be escalated, there are two T-Mobile stores within five minutes of my house.

I am having the same issue. My daughter can not call me. I have 5 lines on a business account. A T-mobile just opened up in my town, do I need to swap to them?

Hello, Rcole43, we want to make sure your daughter is able to reach you at any time. Is she able to send you messages? Does she hear a similar message that the "call cannot be completed as dialed" when trying to call you? Is there any change if she were to dial your 10-digit number and then call as opposed to calling from her contact list?

I have the same problem. I have an Android S21 5G. Since the last update I only get, like, one out of ten calls from my wife. As far as I know this only happens with her. I'll be in the same place,not moving my phone, getting calls from other people, but she'll try me ten times and finally it rings.... or not. Why just her number? She's not blocked. I don't have Do Not Disturb on when she's trying to call me. Time to switch carriers, I guess.
