long story short, me & my husband moved to alaska for a job, and once we got here, upgraded to smartphones. but we didnt realize that verizon didnt have towers up here, so having a smartphone was really useless, as you can only make/receive calls and text. no picture messages, no internet, no apps, nothing. so we went back to our old phones, send the smartphones back, and now were very much stuck. because we want smartphones, but without the towers, we cant utilize them, and we've checked into different wireless companies here, and at&t wants a $400 deposit + cost of phones, and you get the deposit back after 9 months of on time payments, and the other, what few there are, companies just piggy back off acs..and their not any cheaper either, and just have coverage for the alaska area. we have family in arkansas, iowa, and florida, and we ever go visit them, wont have converage. i guess my question is- will verizon be getting the 3g coverage up here anytime soon..also ive heard rumors that they will be getting an iphone or iphone-like phone in the summer..but whats the point of it, here in alaska at least, if there is no 3g coverage..basically, calling customer service just says i have to get on a plane, go back to like virginia i think, get off the plane, dial some numbers to update the tower services, get back on the plane and go home and it would work..seriously? unless verizon plans on getting some coverage up here relatively soon, were gonna dump them...we've been with them for like 6 yrs, and would probably continue to keep them, as their services have been amazing till we moved. but their only option is to fly back to the 48 states and dial a number? thats the ONLY option?? if we can get a way around the deposit at at&t we will be going with them..but they say its only because we dont have history with their company..how can you have history with them if you cant afford the deposits??
