my iphone will not answer a call from a landline

A person trys to call me with a landline. My apple iphone does not ring and I get no message on my voicemail. My recent calls also do not show a call. I went to their office and had them call me while I was standing there. My phone did not ring. On their phone I heard a voice say "this is Jerry, leave a message". They left a message. The message is not on my iphone. 1. Why does my iphone not show this as a recent call. 2. Why did my iphone not ring. 3. Why do I not have a message on my voicemail. 4. Where is the voicemail? 5. This has got to be a Verizon issue but they can not seem to fix it.

I tried Verizon chat and went to a verizon store. No solution. any ideas????

As an Android user, I'm not that conversant with the Apple iOS interface, but I'm wondering if your voicemail app is designed for visual voicemail or some such where you are reading text instead of listening to a message? If so, I'd say that because landlines are using a different technology (either copper wire or voice over internet protocol), something cannot be "translated" to a worded message when a landline caller leaves you a voice message, so it goes to the plain old *86 voicemail which is simply recording the message much like answering machines back in the 90s did.

As for checking your blocked calls, I'd use either the troubleshooting link the CS rep posted, or check your phone app settings for what kind of filtering, if any, is in place to block spam calls. If your phone is a Verizon model, it ought to have Verizon's Call Filter app installed on it already.

I did a little searching elsewhere on the internet about iPhones not getting calls from landlines and the only things which came up were about making sure your carrier settings are fully updated and having a new SIM card (but that would only apply if your current SIM or eSIM is several years old methinks):

Does the voicemail show up when you dial *86 for plain old voicemail? As for why your phone doesn't even ring, maybe you have the number blocked on your phone, or possibly the call filtering app you're using has flagged the number as spam. A rarer cause is a database issue with the landline number not being listed correctly, but usually that causes the caller to get a "number disconnected or not in service" message or some other error message where the call completely fails to go through.

It looks like it began back in March of this year. I listened to about 20 messges on *86. I thought all my voicemails would be on my iphone and never thought about *86. These messages all appear to be from landlines to my iphone. My phone never rings and the calls do n ot show up in my recents so I have no reason to look at *86. My zip is 85755. This has to be a verizon issue of some kind. I did one verizon chat and the tech had me do a reset network settings, then turn my phone off and back on . then the tech said she was doing some sort of test or reset from her end. Then she said it was done and my phone should operate properly. I immediately went to the business that had called me. While I stood there they called my iphone. It did not ring and did not show a recent on my iphone. We listened to the business phone while it called me and something answered the call and I heard my voice say "This is Jerry. Leave a message". My phone did not show a recent and thre were no messages on my iphone voicemail. That message we heard also is not my present voicemail message. There is some sort of Verizon issue when a landline calls my iphone.
