5g Router and eero

For the better part of 6-8 months I have been using the 5g and eero for my setup without issue.

I have the router in pass-through and using the eero to control the network.

Twice over the last few months the 5g router has taken a dump where it has been needing to be rebooted (unplugged and plugged back in). The issue with that is both times I have not been home for a length of time (traveling for wor, and I need it to be rebooted for the security cams/doorbell to work.

Obviously I know (through research) that I cannot reboot it thru the GUI or the app due to pass-thru mode.

I guess my only other option is to use the 5g as the wifi and the eero repeaters (put them in pass-through mode).

I am looking to pro /cons of setting up this way. Any help and guidance would be great.

To have a 100% uptime would be great with my current setup, but don't want to redo it all if it won't work.

A couple of questions to help me, help you:

Do you routinely reboot your Verizon 5G router? (e.g. once a week)
What model of Verizon 5G router are you using?
What is your firmware version?

I'll share that I routinely reboot my router (once every 7-14 days) and I do not have issues with unexpected downtime. I do the same with cell phones and other "small computers" I use (e.g., smartwatch).

It sounds cliche but it's really not. I have countless stories from decades in the technology industry. Those experiences inspire my preventative reboots. Even my phone vendor (Samsung) took notice years ago and built-in an "auto-restart function" to many of their phones.

Also, I rely on my Verizon 5G router for my entire Wi-Fi network. I don't need/use extenders.

I'm not sure if eero extenders (i.e., repeaters) will work in "mesh" mode with the Verizon 5G router, but I would guess that will not. They're intended to be used as a singular eero system, so they may only talk to each other. Or, they may work but in a "non-mesh" mode where your devices would switch to the extenders in a less graceful way than they would with a mesh network.

My router is ARC-XCI55AX. I have never had the need to reboot my routers. Past life, it was rebooting weekly when it was on its last leg (different company that I had 0 access and control over).

I am not sure what firmware I am running...as I am not home and just seeing my 'dead' network.

Yes I know that turning it off and turning it on again, typically works for most IT situations, but if I am not home, nonway to do it. Maybe trying it out without the eeros may work, since in theory, I could reboot from the app...I think. I was trying to get a it more coverage distance.

I would ask Verizon if they can swap out that ARC-XCI55AX for the WNC-CR200A. I've read about pass-thru issues on the ARC you have, and the equipment just going "dark" like you're experiencing is not normal. In other words, I've never had to power cycle my WNC-CR200A.

The only thing (other than malfunctioning equipment) that I can think of causing this type of problem is an erratic connection to the tower (but that should self resolve), or a really weak signal between the router and the tower. If it's on the edge of connectivity at all times. If you need help determining how to find the signal strength, let me know.

Without signal strength info, I assume this is an equipment issue. Hopefully, getting a replacement from Verizon won't be a big deal. If I were more than just another customer, I would happily help get that going for you.
