Want to upgrade from Env Touch to Droid, Have questions

So currently I have the family share 700 minute plan with two Env Touches and the 9.99 data plan. After figuring out too late that theEnv Touch sucks for web usage I want to upgrade my phone to something that works better. I do however want to keep my existing $9.99 plan. So if I buy my friends Droid 2 and activate in online can I keep my same data plan of $9.99?

Data is Data right?

Data is Data right? Well, the data is the same - the way your phone handles it and the amount of data you will use is where the difference lies. As you yourself said, the browsing experience on the EnvTouch is less than adequate - that's what you get for $10 a month. A Droid will have a much better browser, will use substantially more data in providing you with the experience you want, and will cost more.

The $10 data plan you are on now (the old Connect plan it sounds like) was only available for the feature phones, never for smartphones or Blackberries, and that is still the case. The Droid is a smartphone, and requires the $29.99 unlimited data plan.

Ok, that's ridiculous! Is there any "newer" type of phone that will work with my current $9.99 data plan?

I don't really understand what the big deal is? I have a DATA PLAN!

Verizon requires the smartphones to have the unlimited data package! They wont let you keep the minimal data plan due to all of the features and what have you of a droid. For example WIFI and GPS are two features you can run indefinitly with your droid. Which is why they require you have the 29.99 data plan.

You have a limited data plan, which probably only provides 25 or 75MB of data each month (depending on when you signed up for the feature). Smartphones require an unlimited data plan which costs $29.99/month.

If you want to see the phones that Verizon currently offers that are compatible with the $9.99/75MB data feature, go to the "Phones & Devices" section of this site and then choose to view "Feature" phones. Feature phones do not require a data plan, but you can add the $9.99 feature if you want limited data access at a better rate than $1.99/MB.
