GXone Commando usb charging problems

Something strange about usb charging via cpu. If your phone is off it will not charge via usb to cpu. If your phone is on it will only charge if you select mass storage? Will not charge if you select charge only. **bleep** people at two Verizon stores were no help!

Not sure what is going on with the charge/no charge issue, but why are you trying to charge with the computer instead of the wall charger? It is a much faster and better charging choice.

Ann154, I don't know how much understanding you have on electronics. Most phones are USB so that you can connect them to your computer to sync, load programs, pictures, etc with mass storage. And if you look at your phone when you connect it will ask you what you want to do. The phone gives you a choice of Mass Storage, Sync, or "CHARGE ONLY". Phones with USB run on 5v weather it is out of the wall charger or out of your computer. They are both the same! One does not charge better than the other! Phones do charge better when they are turned off. That is why I turn my phone off at night and plug it into my desktop cradle plugged into my USB to charge. This phone will not charge at all if it is turned off and plugged into USB, and it will only charge in mass storage mode when connected via USB.. I also have a DINC so this is not something new to me. Actually I talked to another Verizon store today and had to show them how to turn the phone on, how the back comes off, and that I already removed the battery and did a hard reset. After staring at it for awhile she told me it was not a "smart phone" and she would submit a report on the phone not working properly. I don't mean to sound rude but if your going to comment on something I would think you would want a little knowledge on the subject!

91fatboy I can charge my commando on my pc with the phone off, what i do is plug in the phone then on the phone i answer the notification with "charge only" what i usually see on the pc is that the device didn't install properly but i ignore that because it still charges the phone. (it usually only installs properly when i choose mass storage), then i turn the phone off and i see the green battery icon that shows that it is charging, I assume you have charged other phones using the same USB port so you might want to check the USB controller in your device manager and see if has the yellow triangle indicating that there is a problem, if there is just right click on the port with the yellow triangle and click uninstall then reboot your PC it will reinstall itself then try the steps i have done. Please forgive me if you already know how to deal with a bad USB port. Hope that works for you.

I have the same problem. My Commando will only charge from the computer when on in mass storage mode. In addition, I cannot charge at all from a USD to cigarette lighter plug in my car. The Commando thinks its has a USB connection, but will not charge in any mode whether off or on. Anyone know how I can charge the Commando while in my car?

To the OP, 91Fatboy, have you tried the suggestion provided by JCF484?

Also, there is a difference between the USB charger and a wall or vehicle charger. The USB cable is meant for data transfer and provides only enough wattage to do so. It will charge your phone slower because the wattage put out by the USB ports is very much less than that of a wall. This is why it would not charge your phone when it was completely out of charge.

In closing, most phones are programmed now to charge only when on. I realize this may mean a longer charge time, but on the iPhone for example, if the phone is powered off when plugged into the charger, it will power itself on. This cannot be changed.

I had problems using the data usb cable. I resolved all of these problems by using a cable that did not have data lines .

There seem to be problems with the commando trying to recognize data lines and thinking it was not correct.

I can now charge from several reserve batteries and a solar panel that did not work before.

Where might i be able to buy a (Non-data line) usb charge only cable? please let me know i got a car charger with a usb connection in it &(it is a verizon brand charger), sapose to be able to charge 2 devices at once but instead it puts my commando into USB mode my wife has a motarola "backflip" wont charge that via USB eather & when i tryed to switch the usb mode to any of the 3 chooses it did not charge.
