I got the Gem a week ago. I HATE It. It is very slow and locks up. Have a problem downloading apps, I get a message saying insufficient storage. I welcome any advice. Im really unhappy that Verizon would sell such a piece of junk.
jodhar,
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your new phone. Clearing the cache under Settings>Applications>Manage is a good idea.
If the issues persist I would recommend a master reset:

Thank you!
Walked into authorized Verizonwireless store yesterday, not store I got phone from, and 4 employees said they had never seen the phone before. One called the other Verizonwireless store down the road that sold me the phone for $1 as it was used, and was told those phones were only given out to Agents back in February of 2011, so why are they being given out to the public if this is true?. Did the agent sell me HIS personal phone?
THE PHONE IS CRAP! And I have documentation from day one that the phone has never performed right. I have a new one coming by Fedex tomorrow, and it HADN'T BETTER BE ANOTHER Gem!
I have been a Verizon customer for years and I don't feel I am being treated fairly. The employee also asked me if the phone had gotten wet, not since I have had it, but he could see some pink or red indicator that said it had. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT VERIZONWIRELESS would do something like this! I WANT THE TRUTH FROM VERIZON NOW!!!
Hi bigbandman,
I understand the importance of having a an operable phone. Ann154 is correct, the Samsung Gem is available through 3rd party distributor's only. Unfortunately it is not clear which 3rd party vendor you purchased the device from, but your device should come with a return policy. If you are within the return policy time frame and would like to return your original device I would be happy to assist you with upgrading to a different device. I an hopeful the replacement device resolves your issues if you decide to keep the Gem. Please let me know if you require further assistance.
Thank you,
I was suckered to into the Samsung Gem. What a rip off...it took me the 14 day return policy to figure out that this phone is a joke. You can't change the font size. I can't find out how to make personalized ring tones. If I could I would return the phone right now, This phone is horrible. I feel for you. I don't understand how Verizon allows this. I guess it all boils down to the almight dollar! If our area had another option for wireless, you bet I would be switching!
just a hunch here....but there is likely a reason that verizon itself does not sell the gem. take it up with the store that sold it to you....not verizon. they didn't sell it to you so how is this their fault????
I have to say that I also got the gem from a store that I thought was a verizon store. I was told it has a speech to text function that would allow me to speak a text message or email and send. The voice dial is crappy. It never gives me the person I want to dial up.
I am going to the verizon store tomorrow (the real one) and exchanging this garbage for something else.
A Gem with the Android 2.2 or "Froyo" update runs like a dream and fixes all, or most, of these problems. Unfortunately, Verizon has yet to release it for their version and sadly, being it's a 3rd party phone, probably won't. The fact that they only allow updates over the air is pretty shoddy.
My wife bought me this phone back in February for my birthday at a "autorized ratailer" who told her it was the actual verizon store. my wife isnt tech smart and was sold this phone. this phone is horrible it has next to no space to download apps it keeps freezing up on me, i have to take the battery out when it freezes. ive been a loyal verizon customer for years and i feel i should be tossed a little bone. this phone is horrible
