Galaxy Nexus no data connection

Just got my GNex yesterday. When I got home I was getting almost no signal. One bar at the most! 3g dropped off to "no data connection". My signal strength was -120db 99asu. My Droid X showed 3 bars and -91db. I called and talked to tech service and they tried a couple of things that did not do any good. They gave me a critical ticket number and said they would call me.

I am about the most disappointed old man you could ever believe. I would cry if I thought it would do any good. Am I alone with this issue?

Between -90 and -100 dB isn't all that great to begin with. Samsungs tend to have weaker radios with Motorola usually being the best so a drop off with the Nexus isn't surprising.

I do realize that my Droid X at -91db was not great but I "always" had 3g service.

it's being pretty widely reported that the radio is weak so if you have a fairly weak signal at your home to begin with you may have issues. you "could" consider a network extender if you REALLY like the phone.

a number of people have said it was great at the store and awful by the time they got home. of course, the store probably uses a network extender.

just an fyi....my htc gets -68 at my office, where my friends samsung gets -92

I really do like the phone and it being supported by Google. I am not familiar with a range extender. If Verizon or Google do not come up with something in the way of an OTA fix I will check that out. I have heard that a Google 4.1 update is in the works and has helped their radio.

Do you have a wifi connection? Download Open Signal Maps from the market and see how far the tower is that your pulling from.

As for a network extender, those use your broadband connection as a means to place a call rather than trying to use Verizon's towers.

you should already 4.0.1 and should have an available update to 4.0.2 (they are already on 4.0.3.....lol). these shipped with 4.0.1 i belive, but you should have been prompted for an available update. if not, then check your settings for an available update, as most users have already had 4.0.2 pushed to their device. it "may" help.

My GNex came with 4.0.1 and upgraded to 4.0.2 in about an hour after I got the phone. They have already anounced a 4.0.3 for some small upgrades to do with social connections.

One of the developers that got his phone about a month ago said that he had already got 4.1 as a tester and that it vastly improved his 3G and 4G speed and connectivity.

I do have a WIFI connection and did download and install Open Signal Maps and not to be surprised with my signal strength but it could not find a tower the signal was so low. Thanks for the help any way.

Take a look at that. It does a god job of explaining issues with Verizon's 4G LTE on phones including yours.
