Well the one side I don't think you have considered, the preinstalled apps is how the service providers offset the price of the equipment and service and if they totally discontinue with this process they will have to figure out another method to make up for the lost revenue which would most likely lead to the service and devices prices going up... So end the end you would be paying more for what you have now.

The apps really do not effect the devices performance or effect the amount of storage on the device because it is stored in a area the isn't accessible by a average user..

Also if you read the web others has stepped into the situation you are considering without any real change.

These apps do not use memory that you would use and do not use resources unless you use the apps.

Is anybody else noticing that since you can't quote in the mobile version (and I'm assuming that's what's going on), these posts don't sequentially make sense and seem out of kilter? You kind of have to assume which reply is to which comment, unless the person specifically addresses that person.

In the mobile version, when you reply to a specific post, how about the usual expected notation saying "In Response To".

how many of the packaged apps are you using when you tap the button at the lower right side of the home-screen?

music, gallery, latitude, email, books, amazon kindle, city streets ........ad nauseum.

i'd bet that other than google apps, they're paying to have their app offered up to make life easier for folks who purchase these smart phones.

Why don't you just hide the app's that you don't like or want. Its a pretty simple idea, "out of sight out of mind." This is my first droid, so I don't know if you could do this on any other device, but I was surprised to to the option there. Just like bearone21 said these are advertisements that verizon gets paid for, so I'm surprised that we have the option to hide them.

I'm all with you there and have made the exact argument to both Verizon & Google (after G downloaded 3 new books when - as I can't delete app at least I deleted their pre-installed media) -- I'm going to chat with my shyster buddies as I agree , I paid for the phone, I paid for the memory space and therefor it is mine to do with as I please and not vor service providers to clutter up -- and btw has anybody checked who pays for the data transfer when they update (or download other unwanted stuff - ie GoogleBooks) ? --- stay in touch as you finalize your plans --

Well as it is 'off topic' you'll notice that this post is immediately after yours and tied by a blue line / offset to your post --- I'll give you three guesses why - - - cause they are showing which post you replied to --- just FYI stuff -- now back to subject at hand -- VZ taking up my storage space and my download allowance with unwanted junk

which means that the vendor is getting paid for a service that I am basically providing - my phone, my data storage, my broadband connection --- when they pay me then I will quit complaining (maybe - then It'll be that I can't go to highest bidder - boy would that change the app world ) Why is everybody justifying this BS instead of being outraged about it -- I know I am, especially when they constantly update and even worse download extensions through MY broadband that I am paying for

(and BTW you have 2 'books', 2 navigate', 3 or 4 ' video services' wasting space on your 'phone' - they are not running - but taking up space -- I can deal with the uploader for apps being there, thats 250 bites each but way too many have program installed at 5 - 150 KB and that adds up when you only have 8G on there -- about 1G wasted by bloatware

as the price is not subsidized for the sake of the apps, but for the 'phone service / broadband service I have to subscribe to for two years ' and if you buy it at full retail (or cancel early and be chrged the difference) you still get all the junk on a phone you bough outright - It's like buying a car with a full time passenger .

SHOW ME --- BECAUSE IT DOESN'T as they are also there if I purchased the phone outright without a contract - therefor no agreement to host such apps . . . . problem for us is that no two are willing to get together -- lawsuits like this have never been won by the vendors - they continue doing it - different versions counting on the consumers inability to unite

Actually a good question , perception wise I'd say yes - null & void - BUT since Google Android Market sells apps for rooted phones as well as apps for rooting phones, thereby I wonder what their legal liability potentially is considering the operating system of these phones is owned and sold/leased by Google . . . . but rooting is not for everyone and it is a risky venture

Droidsw, the mobile version uses a flat format for the posts. Confusing yes. I find that I actually prefer it. You can also switch the PC version of this community to display the posts in a "threaded view" (default) or "flat view". I have switched my login preferences to flat for the posts. I can still tell who replied to whom by reading the "in response to" line above each post. If I have questions about who replied to whom on the mobile version, I plan to switch to the PC version and check the thread again switching as needed to the threaded view when necessary.

If you bought a wireless device for Postpay Service from Verizon Wireless that doesn't use a SIM card, and you want to reprogram it for use with another wireless network, the default programming code is set to "000000" or "123456." But please note that your wireless device may not work with another wireless network, or the other wireless carrier may not accept your wireless device on its network. If you activate a wireless device for Prepaid Service, during the first six (6) months after activation, it can only be used for Prepaid Service. The iPhone 4 is configured to work only with the wireless services of Verizon Wireless and may not work on another carrier's network, even after completion of your contract term.

Additionally, this customer agreement is for ALL customers, not just customers who sign a 2yr contract. This is explained in the 1st paragraph of the agreement.

"Thanks for choosing Verizon Wireless. In this Customer Agreement, you'll find important information about your Service, including our ability to make changes to your Service or this agreement's terms, our liability if things don't work as planned and how any disputes between us must be resolved in arbitration or small claims court . If you're signing up for Service for a minimum contract term, you'll also find information about that contract term and what happens if you cancel a line of Service early or don't pay on time, including the possibility of an Early Termination Fee you may owe Verizon Wireless."

If this agreement was ONLY for customers who sign a 2yr agreement, they wouldn't need the part in red.

MrOpinion, if you are concerned about those apps downloading updates without your knowlegde, why don't you turn off automatic update on them?

Actually, because Android is open source, Google gives away the OS and only requires OEMs to meet certain requirements to be able to put the "with Google" label on it. Also, the majority of the apps in the market are developed outside of Google (except those clearly marked with Google as the developer) and all root apps have a warning that whatever happens to your phone while using the app is your responsibility.

What a concept, no just maybe you care to tell me how -- because my 'auto update' is turned off (more correctly NOT ON) in the only location I can find such - market-settings but does not appear to apply to pre-installed apps - can't find anything else--> not under main settings/apps not under individual 'pre-installed apps'(as someone else claimed) and note that the 11 that keep wanting to update are not identified - just a msg that states updates and if you don't treat it just perfect it will suddenly slam your phone w/ 11 parallel update downloads - where now I can see which ones but to late and only a few let me uninstall update bringing it down to minimal app. Sorry having hijacked string - but it was a natural spawn that should be seperated

Open your market, menu>my apps, scroll to which one you want and select it, then make sure automatic updates are turned off. Now, for future reference, you sound rather dickish and easing up on your tone a bit might get you a bit more help.
