Samsung Stratosphere: How do I eliminate email contacts from the suggestion list for text message recipients?

I have auto sync turned off, but whenever I send a text message the phone still starts bringing up random email contacts.  If I'm texting, I only want to send it to people from my actual phone contacts.

I even restored my phone to factory defaults and repeated the addition of my email account to make sure I wasn't choosing any (avoidable at least) sync options, but the darn thing keeps inconveniencing me with this.

I called Verizon and they weren't able to suggest anything I didn't already know...the guy even called someone from Samsung who said it was pretty much stuck that way regardless.

But surely it can't be this stupid...there HAS to be a way...because this is a horrible setup, to not even be able to keep the contact lists separate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know which phone you're using, but the options are different on the Stratosphere...nothing relating to this.

Here's the solution I worked out:

After turning off auto-sync (in Settings - Accounts and sync), I had to go through my contacts, open the "groups" tab, then from the "not assigned" category delete all the email-derived contacts one-by-one.  The original sync that pulls down all those email contacts is unavoidable in the initial Stratosphere setup, so a factory default reset did NOT help me.  The only option I've determined is, like I said - turn off auto-sync first, then delete the unwanted contacts from the list I mentioned one-by-one.
