Preset contact information is not editable on this device

I have been waiting for this phone to come out for several months as I was ready to purchase the Thunderbolt but did not like the short battery life it has at 1400ah.

Verizon corporate store did the transfer of contact from my BB to the Bionic via the Cellbrite method. At first glace everything looked fine but upon further inspection it was found that every contact that was transferred can not be edited and shows this error message in any given contact when the "edit" key is pressed for that contact:

"Preset contact information is not editable on this device".

Of course when the Verizon call center was notified they state it is a Motorola issue. Motorola says it is a Verizon issue.

Battery life, after a fully charged battery, was drained in about 9 hours after light usage on a 4G network of internet usage.

Also it is found that if someone texts your Bionic from an incoming phone number starting with *82xxxxxxxxxx you will not be able to reply and you cannot initiate a text message if you have a blocked phone number on your phone and you are using *82 and the number you are calling to unblock your number.

It actually isnt as bad as some report if 4g is turned off and only turned on when needed.

See if your contacts are synced with Google Contacts, if they are there try to export them and the see if you can delete all contacts from google and then import then back and see if this give you access to them to edit the data.

I found that the edit contacts lost a lot of functionality when my X was upgraded to GB. If he has Backup Assistant running, I would export from Backup Assistant on the web, then import them into Google. This is what I did. I still cannot edit some parts of the contact (Birthdays/Anniversaries) but it handles those dates much better than Backup Assitant does. I did delete the contacts in Backup Assistant since Google is now my prefered way to handle/backup contacts, and if you have the same contact in both Google and Backup Assistant, they get combined in the phone and makes for a very messy look to phone numbers/email address's/birthday's/Anniversaries being multiplied.

CriticalReviewr, I know how exciting it is to wait for a new product to launch so that you can be the first to have it because I found myself doing the same thing with my device when it was launched. I also can understand how frustrating it is to notice issues with your new phone that are critical to your use of the phone. I researched your issue and was able to locate it as a known issue with customers who transferred contacts through the Cellubrite tool from a different phone with a different platform than the Bionic. For instance; feature phone, Blackberry, Iphone, or Windows phone.

Have you tried curtterp's suggestion with your Google account and syncing your contacts?

We found that customers who transfer contacts through the cellubrite tool will need to do the following process to sync contacts with Google:

1) export contacts to SD card,

2) next import them to Google ( ensure sync contacts is checked under my accounts for Google) .

Please let us know if your issue was resolved.

This issue exists and is a problem with more than "preset contacts". It in fact happens with contacts you add yourself or via entering your twitter or other accounts. I find it inexcusable and that it still exists months after I find to beyond inexcusable. I purposely don't buy a brand new device because I don't have to have the latest greatest but want something that's been out for a bit and it's issues resolved. This one still exists and makes setting up a new phone or managing contacts a major pain in the backside. This issue is obviously by no means resolved, even months later.

I too have similar problem and no hint as to solution.

I bought Moto Droid 2x for its data file handling features in the full expectation that it would function acceptably as a telephone. Unfortunately, I have found that it is often tough to use as a telephone. One very annoying problem is the retention of obsolete contacts that can't be deleted. They can be hidden on a one-by-one basis, but I've not yet found a way to delete or hide them in bulk. Unfortunately, the contacts transferred from my old Moto RAZR seem to always be listed first in the contact list. Hence when looking up a name, I often first select the old contact information before I discover that I'm dialing a number that has since been changed.

When you go to edit / delete these contacts, one gets the message, "Motorola Services contact information is not editable on this device," or an equivalent statement "you cannot delete contacts from read-only accounts". I know I'm not the only person with this problem. Certainly there must be a solution short of wiping out all memory and starting from scratch. Any suggestions?

Good Afternoon buczacz. I know it's important to be able to manage your contacts. You should be able to edit or delete contacts that you have stored in your phonebook. Pre-loaded contacts such as voicemail, or the # options(BAL, DATA, MIN) can't be removed or edited. Are you having difficulties removing contacts that you entered on the device that were not pre-loaded? Are you attempting to edit or remove these contacts from the contacts app itself or are you using Google or Backup Assistant? ^JHK
