Samsung stratosphere...soo many questions :)

Just got this phone a few days ago. I really like it so far. Fast, easy to use. Being new to the world of smartphones though, I have a number of questions. I have tried searching here for answers and know that some of those answers are "no." But I'll ask anyway.

1. Can I change the color scheme to the phone ingeneral. Get rid of the green color?

2. Can I change the way my text messages look? I hate the bubble thing and have trouble reading against the black background

3. Will the phone switch between Wifi and the 3G/4G setting on it's on when I come and go from my house? Earlier it was driving me crazy. I had been on wifi but then left my house. Every time I wanted to check email or go on the browser while I was out, the phone would try to find a wifi connection. Do I have to specifically pick one or the other? I would think it would switch on its own.

4. Apps- can I get rid of all these proloaded apps? I notice I am only given the choice to delete those that I have downloaded myself. There are so many I will never use. Why have them eating up space on my phone? If not, which would be CRAZY, can I at least condense them into a file w/a name. Like "Apps I hate but can't delete." :smileyhappy:

That's it...for now. I'm sure I'll have more. Believe me when I say I have tried to find these answers myself.

In order:

1) No you cannot, sorry.

2) You can actually get an entirely different text messaging app that beats the original by leaps and bounds. Search for 'handcent sms' in the market, it's free, but by no means the only replacment.

3) The phone switches from mobile data (3G/4G) to remembered wifi seamlessly, however, it will annoy you to no end for wifi due to Verizon's capped mobile data plans so as to help you not go over your cap (generally 2GB). You can ignore this when out.

4) No, preloaded apps are stuck on the phone. There are technical things you can do to remove them, but it voids your warranty so the general answer is no, you cannot remove them. I suggest making a folder and putting all of them in there to at least clean up the app drawer/screen.

Thank you!!! Well done. I appreciate the concise, clear answers. Seems so odd that you can't change the way things look on your own phone? Hmmm.

My data plan is 4GB so I think I should be ok. Although once I really get into using it, who knows?

I will definatelycheck out the messaging app and making file to neaten up all those apps!!! Thanks again!

Regarding item 3, if you uncheck the 'notify me' option in the wi-fi settings, the phone won't keep telling you when wi-fi is available. Keep your eye on battery life when you're using wi-fi. The phone will use more battery when you use the weakest signal between wi-fi and 3G/4G.

Actually, it will indeed keep reminding you, just slightly less frequently. I've had mine unchecked for a while but any time it comes across a remembered wifi hotspot or a new open hotspot it asks me to turn wifi back on.

You can avoid this by deleting the wi-fi connections/hotpots you don't or won't use.
